Is he a full Monte type? That hair and mullet! I hear he has tiny hands, you know what that means. Jokes aside he is an old school football player and very good lead blocker. We need that type, but will we use him?

Agree. I think Conner gets the FB label and we keep 3 TE's. Although, Conner will play mostly TE.
Watching that tape, I can tell you he’s no Dan Kreider. Who just happened to be another UDFA. Not the same pop, ferocity Dan had.
So they have three viable TEs and an Hback. Anyone think they are keeping a FB?

Exactly.. as a FB/Hback he can be a utility weapon… a pure FB on the ps isn’t the worst idea though
Doubt if Monte will make the team, but those block numbers sure make Iowa jerseys look good.

I'm sure he'll look amazing out there on kick coverage during touchbacks
If not there is PS potential. Interesting that he was the only UDFA that received an incentive to sign.

That also means non-proper use of the FB.
Gentry will be the tell-tale, if he is cut they will retain the new FB And actually try using the FB PROPERLY.

Yes, which mean he was a priority free agent. If he blocks as well as he has shown in college and can catch a little ( in the NFL ) , why not give him a spot on the 53 man roster? Power football can use a good FB to blow up those nickel defenses we face so often. Use him as a surprise sub. That what I would do. I'm a match up and situation football type of guy. I do not think Tomlin and Canada are. Your not so bad when you talk football. I do not have any data nor have I seen film that I am aware of on special teams. I'll assume he can play it.

I think Conner is underrated and was underused last year. The guy made plays when asked to. I know his options will be limited especially after drafting another TE, but if it comes down to it I would keep him over Gentry. I also think Watt is a good player, but we just do not use him in our system. Watt is probably overpaid, but if it keeps TJ happy then i try to keep him on the team.

Watt was 4 million + on the cap and did not due much, nor did he excel in his role. This guy looks to be able to blow people up of film and will cost us, oh about 750K onthe salary cap if we keep him. I like it.
I knew you couldn't make it threw a day without dissing a player or coach.

It's amazing that they paid Derek Watt almost 10 million dollars over three years for so little use and production. He got some short yardage first downs last year, but just about any capable fullback could have made those gains.
Meh Watt was yet another special teams ace… for the amount of money and roster spots we spend on special teams we ought to have a top five unit across the board instead of mediocre to poor …

Its great to think that the Steelers might return to the days of using the bus driver, but I don't think that is happening. Seems more likely that this guy is PS backup for Conner as FB/HB, after Watt gets cut.

A FB like we picked up should be used vs. those nickel defenses we face often on 2nd down. We should surprise opponents with a sub. Our FB will take those nickel LB's and DB's out of the play. That is what I would do. Hint - hint for Canada.
The amount of money we gave Derek Watt was gross cap mismanagement. Hopefully Khan will have better used of the cap. He cut a lot of guys...we are stuck with a lot dead money this year.
But for draft our 2 GM's ( Wedil being the other ) get an A. I like our rookie free agents a lot. We picked up a former 5 star player at QB too. Check him out. His name is Hunter Johnson.
