Weidel effect?

Well, I heard something that Tomlin has final say so concerning the draft. If that’s the case, thats not good.
Really depends. If someone has the final say and is picking BPA that is leaning on GM- draft constructed big board, I am less concerned than if someone ignored their input and or when the big board was created pushed for their prospects over what everyone else said. Then sure I would be concerned.

I'd feel better if the season ended 8-9 rather than 9-8, drafting at 14-15 seems to be a sweet spot for needs, hope I'm wrong.

I thought a lot about that too ... but ending the season with wins against the Browns and Ravens, just can't be unhappy about it. That being said, definitely a legit point.

Most definitely, it was another strange and typical season for the Steelers. They should have beaten the Pats and Jets. If they could have won just one they're in the playoffs and all the supposedly juggernauts (Chiefs, Bengals and Bills) were anything but during the last three weeks.

I realize our team's flaws and recent destruction in the playoffs but you never know, maybe we could of won a game or two.

Got away from the topic there, this draft is extremely important. There are players that will be available that can contribute immediately, I'm extremely hopeful that Weidel's big board and experience with teams that weren't afraid to move around on draft day is influential.

This draft is extremely important. But, it ain't Weidl's draft. As the Asst. GM, I'd say his input will be invaluable. Especially seeing what he was able to help build in Philly. However, as the Asst. GM, expecting him to have more say so than, or final say so over, Khan and Tomlin is expecting too much. He's probably 4th man on the totem pole as far as influence goes, behind, in no particular order, Khan, Tomlin and ARll.

AGREE, but they brought him in for a reason and his opinion will have more "STAMP" on it than whoever 4th place stamper was last year.............

I think the three above him will listen closer than they have last year.

I think of weidl as a Co-GM, one guy crunches the numbers while the other has the scouting experience. I think his voice will be highly valued and that's the main reason they brought him

I thought of Weidle that way too. Until I read somewhere recently that Omar is definitely putting his stamp on the scouting and scouting himself. I hope against all hope that his "scouting" includes having a verified and qualified talent evaluator with him at all times. And that said talent evaluator is showing him the ropes in regard to any of the areas of evaluation that Omar might be lacking in.

DK seemed to indicate Weidl wasn't going to have as much of a voice as anticipated. Hopefully that isn't the case.

They sure as hell SHOULD. He remade the Philly roster into one of the best in the NFL.

We'll know once the draft rolls around. But that would be a huge mistake if his voice wasn't impacting that room.

I don’t care who gets credit for the draft picks, I just want great talented picks. Wiedl will have a hand in it just like Kahn / Tomlin / Art 2 / scouting staff. It’s the top 4 that will matter and I’m sure they (4) will interact a whole bunch amongst themselves.

I hear yaz SteelBuckeye & thanks for all your great post(s) along the way.

I would think for sure it impacts that room, they know what Philly has done with the draft and PITT is sure as hell wanting that replicated. They brought him in for a reason, and Wiedl wouldn’t come over here just to stand with his hands in his pockets.!

Weidl is there because Kahn is a bean counter with minimal football chops. This will be Weidl with a Tomlin override. Maybe they should let Weidl pick two trench players and Tomlin can do flashy.

I just hope he understands someone ”having trouble with the curve”.

You mean, you "anticipate" things being this way. However, what I've read in other places indicates that the "bean counter" will have a significant say so during the talent evaluation phase of things and that he will have as much say so about draft picks as past GM/Pres. of Football Operations.

imagine we draft a top LT, be it Skoronski, Paris, Harrison or Broderick. Would it be so bad to give Moore a try at RT? the guy is good at run blocking and is lacking in lateral agility for pass protection, sounds about right for that side of the Oline, the only worry would be the bull rush. Moore still is very young, 24 years old and with 2 years of experience under his belt he could make the move and make Chuks expendable, we might even get a late 4th rounder for him and save some cap money while moving on with the new guys.

Though actually I see this move more possible to happen next season if it all, thoughts?

Many here feel that Moore would slide over to LG and do much better there. I'd be for that move if he truly could beat out Dotson.

Regardless, we need a high investment LT who could start day one.
