See, here's da ting. At the time that drooling demoniac emerged from his cave, there wasn't a written arabic language, per se, and Mo and his peeps were illiterate. The koran, as it were, was an historical account of the drooler's words and deeds recorded in the language of the literates of the day - Syriac. The koran didn't emerge in arabic until some 150 years after the drooler drooled his last, and they were still in arabic rev 1. The book, as it stands is fraught with issues, not least of which is this "72 virgins" business. The original texts speak of "hur" as the "reward" for being a "good" terrorist. The drooler's followers inferred, and infer "houri". Imagine the "surprise" when the "mighty soldiers of allah" reach their "reward" to find a box of raisins rather than the promised 72 pubescent nectarines. One imagines there will be other surprises as well.
If this sort of thing interests you, you should seek the writings of "
Christoph Luxenberg" and "
Ibn Warraq", who have invested considerable energies demystifying these misunderstandings.
And BTW, this "allah" the drooler's followers "speak of" isn't God. It was among the 365 gods Mo's peeps worshiped at that time, specifically the "moon god". Ergo the crescent. Many of these, er, misunderstandings could be cleared up if the drooler's followers weren't illiterate... and
inbred.
