The best teams have someone the defense has to take away, a marquee player. We've always had one until.....AB Left. When a team has to committ a gameplan and resources to stop such a player, it opens up the game for others. We can all remember times when the ball seemed forced to AB. many times. Such players often cannot be stopped even when the defense tries: AB, Gronk, Adams, Hopkins. Just look at your fantasy team and these guys often have second tier QBs passing to them. Who is OUR GUY that scares defenses? I don't see that guy on this team. No Santonio, no Wallace, no AB. There's talent collectively, but no one who can take over a game. I don't see a WR here who consistently beats his man over and over and none who are consistently wide open. He's dead to me now, but my gosh how good was AB by comparison.

Some misguided folks believe that DJ is that guy right now. I can't imagine that there are many, if any coaches who would be sitting up at night saying "We've got to stop Johnson or he's going to murder us."
You're right, we don't have that guy right now. I think the hope was that Claypool and DJ would both develop into that guy. It could still happen, but neither are there. Najee, behind a fully cohesive line could also become that guy. Hoping the line starts to get it together soon to see. 'Muth could become our best TE since Heath retired. Right now it seems there are a lot of "coulds, mights and maybes".

You don't need that guy. What they have is great. Everyone is damn good. But if you can stop their run and apply pressure with minimal blitz it's a problem. Ben has traditionally been a kill your blitz guy. His qb rating against the blitz is off the hook. So they drop big zones and he isn't patient enough to dump it and take yards. An incomplete pass Coupled with a short or negative run equals third and long. If this team cannot improve its run block they are basically ******. Ben never has and never will be Brady.
