Will it be Joe Kruger or another PS DE? How about we sign a FA DE, maybe a guy like Adam Carriker?

Maybe we can finally give Josh Mauro some snaps. He had a very good training camp and preseason.

Exactly. Very good technician, good hand skills.

Or hey, I know he is raw, but what about a physical specimen like Nick Williams? 6'4", 315 lbs., very strong, can hold the point. Put him on the 53 and have him get a few snaps, such as goal line for example, to prepare for next year.

I feel that the position is in decent shape what with Mauro and Williams available to back up Tuitt and Heyward.

Wait, what???

Mother@#$%&*

Funny guys. I'm serious here, Kruger and Hemer is all we have. Would rather sign a guy like Carriker that played under Haslet and would know the terminology.

Tuitt @ Cam Thomas split time

Go with Tuitt and Heyward to actually get Tuitt some
meaningful reps. You can spell them with McClendon and Thomas and give big Dan the starting nod inside. 5 DL in gameday should do it with as much nickel and dime we should be playing these last 4 games the way our pass D looks.

I guess you bring up Kruger and hand him some sweats. Sure would be effing nice to have Mauro right now instead of Hubbard, Thomas, L Jones, Webb... **** our roster looks like crap on the bench

Just saw on twitter that we signed Clifton Geathers and put Keisel on IR

forgive me, but who? Won't he need 3 years to learn DL's exotic defensive scheme? We're f'd!

I guess they figure being 6-8 340lbs he doesn't need to know the defense just stand there and not move.

He played under Haslett in Wash, so he'll be fine. That's why I mentioned Carriker. He played under Haslett also in Wash, and it pretty talented...just injured a lot.

well, why not?

we gotta meet our thug quota

As Washington prepares to head to Minnesota for Sunday’s game against the Vikings, one veteran player won’t be making the trip. Because he’s no longer a member of the team.

Washington has announced that defensive end Clifton Geathers has been released. Inactive the past two weeks after better players at his position got healthy, Geathers became expendable.

His roster spot has been filled by safety Phillip Thomas, who was promoted from the practice squad.

A sixth-round pick of the Browns in the 2010 draft, Geathers has bounced around the league. He has played for the Dolphins, Seahawks, Cowboys, and Colts, who traded him to the Eagles. He signed with Washington in March.

(AP) -- COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - South Carolina defensive end Clifton Geathers is facing several charges following an incident at a nightclub. Multiple media outlets reported Sunday that Columbia police charged Geathers with public drunkeness, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct. A call to police spokesman Brick Lewis was not immediately returned Sunday afternoon. Authorities say it took two officers to handcuff the 6-foot-8, 281-pound Geathers, who was not complying with police commands, swinging his arms wildly as an officer tried to detain him Sunday morning. Geathers, a junior, came into summer camp as a starter. Under school policy, Geathers is suspended until his case is resolved.

Two ******* hours to hand cuff the mother ******, Hit him with that stick till he is on the ground and unable to move, that'll cool his *** off. You decide to fight with the police you go to the hospital on the way to jail end of ******* story.

Where do you see "two hours"? It said it took two cops to restrain him so he could be cuffed.

There's a reason this guy has been on damn near every roster in the league: he sucks. Oh well. I guess when you need a JAG, you need a JAG. His snaps better be minimal

in other words, he'll start this week and play upwards of 90% of all defensive snaps.

Why? Who the hell makes these decisions? I'd have rather had a high character rookie off some practice squad, who might suck, but probably no worse than this jackass. They get rid of Blount, then get this guy....

Who in the hell do we think makes these decisions? Gee, I'll bet its Tombert. Another brilliant roster move by the dynamic duo.

To be honest, I think McClendon could be a stud on the outside. His size and speed, he has great feet for a nose tackle.

A guy whimper for the d line...great... Can't believe lost two young prospects and we another fat lazy journeyman instead to replace a really solid guy.... Does anyone in the front office even WATCH football?

No worries. Tomlin and his staff will coach up the next man up. The fire, desire to be great, commitment to excellence that is the hallmark of this team wil - HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Clinton Geathers shows the benefits of his improved football knowledge from Steelers coaches, 5 minutes into his tenure with the team:

"We believe Mauro has some work to do," Tomlin said. After being told that Mauro had been signed off the practice squad, along with Nick Williams, and replaced by journeyman cage-fighter Clinton Geathers, Tomlin admitted that his roster knowledge was "obviously below the line" and promised "to go back to the lab."

Wait, I thought the "Steelers Way" was not to bring in low-character guys. That's supposed to be the Raiders/Jets/Patriots* way. They just got rid of one of the Blunt Brothers, then bring in this guy? Seems hypocritical to me.

Another bum, reject, journeyman from another team. Would'nt it have been better to keep the young draft picks that have not settled in to mediocrity like this guy has? Someone that you can mold. That does not already have bad habits that will be hard to break? It may be 4 years before we see a dominant defense in Pittsburgh again..
