I have given him a lot of guff over the years, so I think it's only right that I give credit where it's due. I don't know what he's done, but man has he improved... Doesn't look like the same player... way to step it up when your team desperately needed it...

What he said.

I think his trip to Arizona (where he signed and then got released) woke him up....he was the whipping boy on defense because he was always trailing the wide receiver and constantly gettin burned but he never quit............he worked and worked to become better and now hes our top CB.

Hes a testament that "miracles do happen". Theres still hope for Cortez.......

Congrats to Gay on a great season.

I have often criticized him too; glad for him and the team that he has grown into his role.

Ike and Troy being sidelined and coaching plus extra work pays dividends. Good on Will Gay, he deserves it.
Against the Rats he will have his work cut out for him . Between Smith (Sr.) Torrey (draws PI calls bigtime) Smith and two producing rookie WR'S Flacco is still making "elite" plays.

He started to turn it around some last year and it looked like the light bulb was starting to come on. I think it's on now. He's been rock solid. Even his tackling has been excellent. Just about everyone (including me) was moaning and groaning about bringing him back last year. Good for him.

How good has Gay become?

Think about this for a second ... the Bungles seemed to be avoiding Gay's side of the field.

I always thought Gay was a good nickel back, but it was when he was inserted into the starting lineup when it was a problem. Way to criticized for not being able to defend Gronk years ago as well, however, he really stepped up his game when he stepped into a starting role. Made some huge plays with his pick sixes.

Gay has always had trouble with bigger players like TEs. he was normally in superb positioning but couldn't make a play... like that game where he gave 3 tds up to Gronk... and yes he is best as the third wheel/slot guy CB, not the edge guy on an island vs their top guy. He was always serviceable though. I like that he jumps routes because it slows down the passing game a smidge

Here's hoping Will Gay gets a chance to defend Gronk in the AFCCG!

I'd like to think Carnell Lake may have had some input.

I get what you're saying, hope we get to the AFCCG, but seriously? That will be a ******* disaster.

Even better. Long shot? Sure. BUT how about Bengals win in Indy and then squeek past the cheaters and we host again in the 'burgh the AFCCG and Ole Willie Gay can give AJ and team fits again.

When they brought gay back from Az i was in disbelief. He was horrible before he left. I don't know if it was dumb luck by management or they saw something in him. Whatever the case he has been very good this year. If allen was playing like the end of last year the secondary would be pretty strong. Our secondary has been holding its own lately which is surprising... I guess we get addition by subtraction. Should show that ike and troys time is done.

This.
The combination of coming back from AZ and the coaching from Carnell Lake's Knee have resulted in a very solid player.

people let's remember he was a late 5th, even being a decent nickel made him already a very valuable pick but also with hard work and studying of the game he has elevated to starter level. Kudos to him, Ward was always right, "hard work beats talent when talent doesn't work hard"

I thought Willie Gay was a good player before he left and when he came back. He was used on several Blitz schemes before he left and had made more than one sack and several pressures. Granted he was not the next Rod Woodson but he was a decent corner and continued to get better. As Craig Wolfley is so fond of saying "how do you like me now".

I remember him seeming to give up a lot of big plays. Then, the next day in the papers etc, his teammates would say it was a blown coverage on their part and he was supposed to have help. While im sure he has improved as a player over the years, i dont think he was that bad the 1st time around, just our perception of him has changed.

I certainly have some Gay pride...wait...dammit

I thought all the kindergarten crowd who thought this was funny had graduated by now. Guess not!

Somethings are funny no matter how old you get. Just like short jokes or fat jokes they are funny as well.

I always yelled at Gay on the TV on his first go round with the Steelers....Absolutely hated him being on the field...

Now I yell "run, run, run" as he takes another Interception to the house....

Remarkable turnaround.......
