Would you trade the 32nd pick for Budda Baker ?

Great player, but that is a lot of cap space to invest into the safety position. I'm also still trying to find a way for this offense to score an average of 8 more points per game to become a serious contender. Gotta surround a young QB with as much offensive talent as possible.

I might offer a trade after the draft pending on how t plays out. no safety taken? yeah I would probs offer our 2024 2nd for him. our 32nd this year? pass

Nope, he'll cost around 14 -16 mill for each of the nexr couple years. He's a hell of a player but he'll want a new contract in a year or two if not for the trade. The Steelers were not terrible at the two safety positions with Edmunds and because of Fitzpatrick. It would be a great tandem but an unaffordable one considering other needs.

Is not only his current cap but that he is not satisfied with his current contract, that's why he's asking for a trade. So any team that signs him must have a new contract to offer that he likes, and he says he wants to be the top paid Safety in the League so let's forget about it as we already have a top safety with that kind of contract

We also have a OLB that fits into that “high cost” category. ADD Cam in to the mix…… well you get the picture….

A VERY COSTLY defense that has under-performed for the amount of money bein g thrown at it. We have reached the “can’t afford” anymore HIGH cost players and that fact is hindering the depth roles as well.

BRING in a high cost / skilled LT or better “O” trench workers, because if you can’t score points, it won’t matter what the defense does.

Not a terrible idea given this teams inability to draft DB talent

I honestly don't get this take. The inability to draft DB talent - like Cam Sutton? What other DB was drafted in the first 3 rounds who failed? Steelers used a 1st round pick for Minkah. I'm going to go out on a limb and say he is the opposite of a failure.

Who else?? Taking into account the round selected and productivity/years with team during Tomlin's entire tenure:

2022: None
2021: None
2020: Minkah - A++
2019: Justin Layne - C
2018: Terrell Edmunds - C+
2017: Cam Sutton - A
2016: Artie Burns - D, Sean Davis - D
2015: Senquez Golson - D
2014: None
2013: None
2012: None
2011: Curtis Brown - D
2010: None
2009: Keenan Lewis - B+
2008: None
2007: None

Personally, I don't think any guy picked in the 3rd can rate lower than a C, 2nd round lower than a D. Seriously, look at the failure rate in general for NFL players selected in the 2nd and 3rd rounds. So as far as I can tell, the entire "Steelers can't draft DB" narrative stems from the 2016 draft. Now do the same for OL, LB, and DL.

Did they though? Finished 10th in PPG allowed and that was missing TJ for a portion of the season along with him taking awhile to get back into form after returning--probably too early. They also held opponents to 20 or fewer points in 11 of 17 games. If the offense is at all competent, that should've been an 11-win season given the efforts of the defense.

So, if that is an 11 win defense, then HELL no to BUDDA Baker, because we need to be able to score points and those “high” cost players now need to land on the offensive side of the ball.

Unless you are going to win ball games with the defense in an offensive favored league.

I hear yaz SteelerFan448, but I still think our defense is over paid to add another high paid player. The OFFENSE needs to be able to score and right now it’s the trenches that need this high paid quality players.

I don't think the defense is overpaid, it's just very top heavy with contracts. However, I think we're on the same page that offense needs to be the focus. I'd be happy if the Steelers come away with three offensive players with three of the first four picks.

Not to mention with a more competent offense eagerly in the season the defensive stats would be far better as they would have been on the field less and had more pass rush opportunities. /////a good offense can make a good defense a great defense.

No. Brian Branch.
I like Branch if he is there at 17 that will be a hard decide. In theory they could take him at 17, then at 32 go RT, and then duke it out at pick 3/4/5 with a C,CB and WR. For me just depends on what LT is available at 17.

I think it'll be a miracle, for us, if Branch is there at 1.32...

I agree. That would be a front flip somersault with a half hip twist shimmy shake to the podium type of available.

I guess I’d re-phrase the over paid. It’s too lopsided in favor of the defense To even consider a high priced player such as BUDDA Baker. The offense needs players through draft or if a big money signing (not a defensive big money ).

We are both thinking near close enough and I appreciate all your great post(s) along the way.
