The Pittsburgh Steelers ride a three-game losing streak back home to take on the 3-1 Denver Broncos who are coming off of a home loss to the Baltimore Ravens. Last week in Yay or Nay, we were 3-2 in our predictions.
What a woeful beginning to the season. After an 11-0 start in 2020, the Steelers are 2-8 since. While the locker room is stressing a “no panic” mindset, Steeler Nation is not.
The Steelers are in the basement of the AFC North. The schedule features two more tough opponents before the bye—an opportunity to heal all of these groin injuries…
First thing’s first: it’s the Denver Broncos rolling into town for a 1 PM kickoff.
The Steelers defense has been banged up and the groin gang can’t stay healthy. The Broncos are pretty banged up on offense and their quarterback situation is still unknown due to Teddy Bridgewater’s concussion protocol. The Steelers defense has to step up. Especially with an offense that is warm and cold—not performing well enough for the “hot and cold” distinction.

It wouldn’t be a surprise either way. They haven’t even sniffed 100-yards rushing in one game this season so far. But it has slowly and painfully improved. The Broncos’ defense has a fantastic rush defense. I don’t want to hear “they played sub-par opponents.” They played against professional football squads. This isn’t the BIG10 taking on MAC squads. It’s not even the XFL or AAF. Toss out that nonsense narrative.

Only 58K showed up in Week 3. Only 63K showed up in Week 2 (the home opener). Are you kidding me? This is a 68K capacity stadium. That’s embarrassing. I’ve heard better attendance rates from an 0-16 Cleveland Browns stadium. Sure, after-sale ticket prices and cost of attendance play a factor. I get that. What I don’t get is the latest attendance numbers. That’s unreal. You’d figure as a fan base, we’d be more prone to showing up after it was robbed from us an entire year due to the pandemic. Make this damn house ours and bring back the home-field advantage, Steeler Nation!

The Steelers can win this matchup in spite of Ben Roethlisberger’s struggles. I’m not expecting him to ever return to “normal.” He is 39, banged up, and is struggling. The good news is that a lot of these struggles are correctable. He’s not the only one to blame in this offense—but 3-5 missed throws per matchup can be the difference makers in games.

The urgency is simply going to have to be there this week. The Broncos are at a huge disadvantage this week. They are banged up, can’t even travel overnight (courtesy of Pittsburgh weddings), and are playing two time zones ahead. Surely, the Steelers can pull this off…

The Steelers defense has been banged up and the groin gang can’t stay healthy.
