Disappointing story too...I absolutely hate that this is how things are done. Makes the Steelers look like FSU and the corrupt Tallahassee PD.
 
Yep attempt at deflection of attention away deflate gate. Its not like we dont already know ESPN bows before king kraft.

That was my initial thought too. We all know that ESPN loves them some Pats**. Is it coincidental that this story, casting the Steelers in a negative light, is put out at time when the Pats** are under heavy scrutiny?
 
This doesn't surprise me at all. Especially in PA, just about every political figure or official is corrupt.
 
If you don't want to get cast in a negative light, don't give people any reason to do so...

I don't get why you guys want to shoot the messenger (ESPN). I hate ESPN but OTL is one of the things they actually do well. We were cheering them when they were exposing Goodell's lies...

I hate this crap. You're right. It makes the Steelers look like FSU North. The Rooney need to sever ties with Kearney ASAP.


After winning the championship in 2009, the Steelers awarded Kearney a Super Bowl ring, which he proudly showed around the sheriff's office, several deputies recalled. Mullen said he considered Kearney's Super Bowl ring "part of his salary, which is paid by the Steelers." Kearney is not required to report his Steelers salary to the Sheriff's Office.

I'm not questioning the legitimacy of the story. Or their motives in pursuing it. It's news and while I can't say I'm glad to read it, it's a well done article. What I wonder about is the timing. Of course, presenting this story at this time could also work in the Steelers favor from a p.r. standpoint. I mean everyone is focused on Deflategate and the Super Bowl.

You got that right. PA is only behind CT in corrupt officials. Hell, Penn State had an entire ring of dirty deeds covered up. Happy Valley is a cesspool.

Yup, it sure looks like the Steelers have their very own "Michael Clayton" to cover things up.

Of course but they needed to sit on it until something happened with the Pats** or Cowboys.
 
I'd be more surprised if OTL found a team/law enforcement that doesn't do this. Not saying I support it, but was there anything in the report that wasn't already expected?

And I'm here in the northeast which is probably the most corrupt part of the state. It's a total joke.
 
I'm sure a lot of pro teams have officers/deputies who help them out with security matters. Who knows better than an active duty law enforcement officer.
 
I really am disappointed in the "They pick on the Steelers" crap when the evidence isn't there. We sound like Browns, Raiders or Bills fans with that mentality. I will admit, a few years back when they started throwing flags for every hard hit, we were being screwed over, but other than that, a mindset of always thinking we are being picked on is paranoid and childish.

Almost every major corporation employees "fixers." And, knowing the nature of football players (many come from rough areas, not white collared choir boys) it would make total sense for NFL teams to have them. Ever see "Michael Clayton?

I don't think anyone here was saying we are being picked on. Most agree it's news (if old news) and a valid story. I think the issue (at least for me) is the timing of the story. Not some paranoid belief that we are being picked on.

OK, Buckeye, I understand. Timing is curious. It's just that I personally know fans who really do believe we are constantly targeted unfairly. They believe Brady is the anti-Christ but the league worships him and that the league tries to cheat to make the Pats win all the time. I am pretty sure that if they did that, the Pats would have won another Super Bowl without a decade of not winning one. MOST Brown and Raider fans truly believe the league targets them at every turn. I just don't like when Steeler fans resembles them.

A fixer can't fix everything, and they key on a fix, is when we don't ever hear about it. Successful fixing are the ones we never hear of. They definitely happen. But sometimes law enforcement goes beyond the point of return before a fixer gets a chance. Blount and Bell were busted on the spot with weed. Unless the officers decided, on the spot, to let them off, there was nothing the Steelers could do. Haselrig was found wasted in a hotel room, right? Who knows how many times the fixer saved Ben that we will never hear about.

The Steelers were also getting called for holding at over a 3:1 clip against them vs. their opponents for a few seasons in a row as well...
