The Oneil Cruz experiment in CF looks promising in Spring training. With his speed, length and arm, he could be a monster there if he gains a decent feel for it.

If nothing else goes right , he and Paul Skenes should make the team worth watching for awhile.

They could be fairly competitive if Jared Jones and Mitch Keller provide decent depth to the rotation and the bullpen improves at all from last season. Bubba Chandler should be up by the summer.

The pitching will probably have to carry them, as there isn't much to be excited about offensively after Cruz and Reynolds. I've pretty much given up on KeBryan Hayes and Henry Davis, though they'll be given another year to show something.

Nick Gonzalez and Endy Rodriguez are worth keeping an eye on, though I'm not sure what their ceiling are.

This team will lead MLB in games lost by a score of 1-0. They have done nothing to solidify their putrid offense from last year. Wash-Rinse-Repeat.

Season is already off to a rocky start with Jared Jones deactivated due to elbow discomfort.

Reports claim he won't need surgery for now, but he might miss several weeks, if not more.

They definitely need to be cautious with him.

Bullpen continuing where it left off last year by ******** the bed.

Holderman and Bednar should have never been brought back.

I read he will not be throwing for 6 weeks. Gonna be June until he gets back if he gets back.

They will keep him out until the all-star break, then decide he needs TJ, and it will cost him another 3 months of rehab. Elbows ligaments do not get better on their own.

Nick Gonzalez apparently has a broken ankle.

Things definitely aren't breaking right for the Pirates in the early going. No pun intended.

No hitting.

No good relievers.

Pretty much sums it up.

Bednar pick up exactly where he left off from last season....suck.

Guy has given up runs in all three appearances this year. Whatever he had, it’s gone. Long gone. Drop 3 of 4 to the Marlins. If that’s any indication of how the season is gonna go, they won’t win 60 games.

It is still only one series, though it is discouraging given how bad the bullpen was last year and improvement has yet to be seen there.

The silver lining is that the starting pitching was good and the offense was decent in the first three games.

They didn't score much today, but their best hitter in Cruz sat out most of the game. Not sure why Shelton felt he needed to rest him after just three games.

I think Bednar is done. Has was bad last year, and the excuse was that he was injured. He looks every bit as bad this year to start, and it isn't like the Marlins are the 1927 Yankees. Sad part is there is no one else that is capable of closing. So I'm not sure what you do.

The fact that Holderman was brought back this season and Bednar was anointed as closing pitcher without any real competition shows you how serious this organization is about winning.

oh no we suck again
Not a huge surprise... ;). I wonder if they'll ever win another WS? I really doubt it. In 4 years, we'll be coming up on the 50th anniversary since the last one. I can still remember staying up to see the end of game 7.

not until MLB pulls their heads out of their ***** and gets a salary cap and a salary floor with full revenue sharing. How they can't see how much money the NFL system generates I will never understand.

MLB is still doing great financially, though.

They won't address the competitive balance issues until they get into the same situation as the NHL in the early 2000s where half the teams including the Penguins were on the verge of bankruptcy and the players had no choice but to accept a cap and the owners no choice but to share the majority of revenue.

Baseball is currently nowhere close to that point.

New kid getting rocked in the first

It didn't get much better from there. Harrington has a chance to be a good pitcher, but definitely a rough debut.

It's made worse by the Pirates' hitters having their poop pushed in tonight by their former first round pick Shane Baz.

Probably going to be a long season. I'm not sure if they'll even manage to keep it interesting until the Steelers start training camp this year.

They get what they deserve for bringing back Shelton and Cherrington after they've made virtually no progress in five years.
