Who did the pirates trade for that sent the first rounder headed to a better career elsewhere? It's made worse by the Pirates' hitters having their poop pushed in tonight by their former first round pick Shane Baz.

How did that trade work out?Chris Archer
This team is God awful. I'm being serious when I say that I'll be surprised if they hit 60-65 wins. How does a GM spend all off season and not bring in a bat or two? Does Sherrington spend his off season in Miami snorting coke and banging hookers all day?
I agree with all of your points, but why isn't Cherrington clearing dead weight (offensively) to bring in a hitter or two? Instead, he brings in Falafel (.260) and Pham (.230) for what reason? Why is Suwinski, Rodriguez, Bae, and Triolo still rostered? There is NO possible way he sat in his office looking at this roster and felt that he improved it one bit.Good hitters cost money, and according to a local media report, they lost money last year despite having a relatively small payroll. I'm somewhat skeptical of that, though.
It doesn't help that they have a decent amount of money (by their standards) tied up in KeBryan Hayes and getting virtually nothing in return, at least offensively
Like I said earlier, it was inexcusable to bring Cherrington and Shelton back after they had been given ample time to improve things and failed.
To a large extent, I don't think it really matters who's managing the team and front office as long as ownership doesn't change.
I mean, in the 2013-2015 period, there was a brief glimpse of the Pirates building winning teams with Nutting signing the checks, but that is looking more and more like an aberration in the big picture.
Contracts are fully guaranteed in baseball. It's not as easy to free up money as it is in the NFL.I agree with all of your points, but why isn't Cherrington clearing dead weight (offensively) to bring in a hitter or two? Inexcusable to not start Skenes in the home opener and not pitch against the Yankees at all. This team is God awful. I'm being serious when I say that I'll be surprised if they hit 60-65 wins. Once the TV contracts dry up.....will see changes, but not until then.MLB is still doing great financially, though.
They won't address the competitive balance issues until they get into the same situation as the NHL in the early 2000s where half the teams including the Penguins were on the verge of bankruptcy and the players had no choice but to accept a cap and the owners no choice but to share the majority of revenue.
Baseball is currently nowhere close to that point.
I agree with you 100%. Skenes not starting the home opener is just shocking, and I don't know why it is shocking. We should be used to this bullshit.Inexcusable to not start Skenes in the home opener and not pitch against the Yankees at all.
Watch Skenes finish with a 15-12 record and a 1.8 ERA.
