Local media vs. national

Almost 100% of the local media mocks a DT to the Steelers at 1.21. Conversely, almost 100% of the national media mocks a QB (Sanders or Dart).

Who’s right?

Personally, I think the local media is so close to the trees that they can’t see the forest. You can’t win in the league without a quarterback. The national media has it right this time.

FWIW, the local sports talk media was mocking Sanders yesterday, except Dulac was saying DT.
 
I could live with Dart, not that I think he's our next franchise guy either, but I think he has a better chance at being that than Sanders, but I don't think Sanders will amount to much in the NFL.

I don't live in the area so I don't hear the radio guys. But all the print/online guys are going DT, including Dulac's co-workers at the PG.

Local guys were also reporting a rumored injury issue with Harmon yesterday.
 
I think it will come down to who is on the board and who is already off of it.
 
The latest media push has the Steelers actively making and fielding calls to trade Pickens. I guess it's always smart to listen regardless, but I don't buy the team has any intention of trading Pickens. The trade for DK makes no sense if they trade Pickens. DK gives the team a solid number 1 WR with Pickens as a really good 1b as the second still on his rookie contract.

They have been trying to get two top receivers since last year. If they trade Pickens, they are back to where they were before, or worse since they had to give up a 2nd round pick and pay a ton of money. Yes, they can draft a WR, but there is no guarantee he will be any good or even play much this season. If they trade Pickens, then I see that as a sign Rodgers won't be playing for the Steelers. What a waste then to trade for DK with Mason as the starting QB without a decent number 2 receiver. You might as well trade DK now since he is not going to be happy for long if that ends up happening.

Maybe they finally get Aiyuk?
 
Dulac has been calling for a DT early for several years. The Steelers have basically ignored the problem on the DL as they still think they only need 2 DL starters and can put scrubs in for rotations, etc. Dulac is not wrong. Yes, we need a QB, but the consensus is only 2 may be 1st rounders, but even that is iffy. They have no 2nd round pick, so they will be reaching for anyone not named Sanders who has been in the top 5 for most of this mock draft season.

DT is who they should pick this year based on all factors involved. If not, they better look to go DL in the 1st and 2nd round next year and be prepared to be the worst run D in the league this year with only maybe 2 legit DL starters in Cam and Benton. Benton has not shown himself to be capable of leading the DL in probably a year when Cam retires. They need at least one DL with 1st round pedigree to build the future of the DL around.
