Welcome to Draft day 2025

How much do we even need special teamers with what they've done to the kickoffs? Kick returns are almost outlawed. If a guy can play ST, great but I don't think you should be drafting guys who you see as special teams only and not able to play a position.

I agree that KR might be less useful...although the league is trying to make those plays at least somewhat impactful.

We've had bad punt coverage teams before and it wasn't good.

1. Harmon - probably the most popular pick in mock drafts for the Steelers, he fills a position of future need and will be the primary rotational DL this year.
2. TRADED - in this draft, DK Metcalf>>>>>>any 2nd round prospect, excellent use of this draft pick.
3. Johnson - some Steelers analysts had him as the best option (assuming Jeanty was gone), perfect fit for this team.
4. Sawyer - added much-needed depth at OLB, the Steelers had been bringing in old veterans to fill this role in recent years
5. Black - plays a position that sees very limited snaps, but maybe he can see those snaps early.
6. Howard - backup capable QB drafted late.
7a. Bruener - only drafted because of his name, will compete to be a special teams ace.
7b. Kent - off-the-radar DB, but likely drafted for special teams...at least has blazing speed.

Not a spectacular draft, but a good draft. I don't really see any stars, but they got players who will help the team be tougher and stronger up front.

I totally agree with all of that

They boned up the DL, added a young RB, got a third string developmental QB, added depth to the OLB spot in case TJ holds in, and got two special teams guys to replace some of the older ones.. the addresses wr in a trade

Id still like IOL depth and a practice squad wr in the udfas

My free agent list

Nick Nash WR San Jose State 6'3 203 - played QB for 3 years before moving to WR.
Bru McCoy WR Tenn 6'3 209
DaQuon Felton WR Va Tech 6'5 213
Isaiah Neyor WR Neb 6'4 218

They could use a physical TE. I don't understand what Connor Heyward brings to the team
Luke Lachey TE Iowa 6'6 251 - he's an Iowa TE, always worth a look
CJ Dippre TE Alabama 6'5 256 - one of strongest players in the draft

Sebastian Castro S Iowa 5'11 203 very smart, played slot CB and S.
Cobee Bryant CB Kansas 6'0 180 - long arms, played mostly zone but is athletic.
No Jordan Clark? Lol.

With the rule change this year we will see more returns.

They changed the rules again...Touchbacks come out to the 35 this year

Way more returns gonna happen

Remember how irritated we as Steelers fans would get when Boz would do that "kick it high and let them return it" thing 2020-2024, and the opponent would wind up at the 34? They were preparing for THIS. DAY.

So we need like some type of hybrid base D, one that is fluid and changes depending on the opponent. 3-4 when needed and 4-2-5 when needed.
I would be fine with playing proper D based on who we are playing and using situational football. A 3-4 base D is fine, but we use nickel more than 3-4. Our nickel should be 3-3-5 . We should never have less than 3 DLs. Against the Ravens or any strong running team we just have to match up to their personnel and down and distance We can not just send guys flying at Henry no matter what, lose contain, and then let Lamar run wherever.

Are you sure he's injured? The only thing I've been able to find is an article post-draft where Harmon is quoted as saying he is just fine and has no idea where all he injury news came from.

Maybe that's something the Steelers threw out there so no one else would pick him.

Our Nickel is really a 4 man front with our OLBs playing DE. Most of the league is doing the same thing. I think that was the reason we drafted Sawyer to have a bigger edge to play that position When TJ is out instead of the smaller Herbig and same with Harmon for Cam. Our Nickel was good against the run when Cam was in and bad when he was out most of the year. This draft was meant to fix that. It isn't going away and it isn't just us.

Zero members of this coaching staff wanted to draft Sanders.

This feels like a pick where the owner made them do it.

Will Browns be Hard Knocks now?
I think it's higher than that.

That look on their faces is the look that you get when you first learn the Easter Bunny isn't real.

It's the look you get when Vito Corleone comes around and says remember that day that I said may never come, well, howdy, have a cannoli, I need a favor. You do this favor for me, you will have my blessing, ask your friends about me, ask your fellow owner Bob, I know how to return a favor.

Agreed....but now the impact is cut all but in half. He has a good point. At least one to think on at least when building a roster.
