Watt skipping mandatory mini camp per Schefter

He’s simply not worth that money.
This team is going nowhere so I would think the smart move would be to get the best deal you can for TJ wIth premium picks in the 26 draft.
TJ disappeared toward the later part of last season.
Not saying he’s still not an effective edge rusher but it appears he pointing the other way now.
Not thinking it smart to pay him for his past production but should be looking towards what his future production could be.
We moved on from Hines, Troy, and even Ben although they were older than TJ but edge rushers on the other side of 30 can be risky when you’re paying them.
A trade to a contender helps TJ and helps the Steelers and I’d hate to see him go but it’s business.
He many not be worth it, but he was the clear favorite for DPOY at the midway point last year, then he got injured. We aren't winning with him, and we aren't winning without him, so I'll gladly over pay to watch him play his last few seasons.
And besides, we trade him for draft capital, Tomlin is the one that's in charge of using that draft capital/money saved, it'll just go to waste anyways.
They obviously think they can win now if they waited around for Rodgers, they aren't trading their best player.

We’re going to have to agree to disagree here Tom.
You’re correct, they ain’t winning with or without him so that’s my argument to trade him for draft picks. Now you are also correct in saying Tomlin would screw up the draft picks.
Man is this organization totally ****** up.
Yep, they think they can win now so hence Rodgers. That’s a total joke in itself. I agree with Terry Bradshaw when he said Rodgers needed to stay in California eat bark and talk to the gods.
Get your popcorn, should be entertaining.

How would you have avoided this???

Inquiring minds want to know...
Huh?????? They could have paid him long ago AND it would have been cheaper. Inquiring minds already knew this months ago. Where have you been?

Just got done shooting a 77 from the tips (back tees). Have a good one! Cold beer time.

Just pay him, you're not paying a QB contract, there won't be a big QB contract here until a minimum of 4 years from now, and that's if they hit on a 1st round pick at QB. I'm keeping the known commodity, the all time great Steeler.
Yep. Pay him. And do something with our defense and offense schematicly so Watt might actually get a playoff victory or two before he hangs it up.

What? Redo it with two years left? Three years left? On his current four year deal? 🤔

Oh I know they won’t trade TJ, but only saying I think that’s the smart move to make.
This is an organization that thinks bringing in a 41 year old has been to play QB will carry them to the SB or at the very least, win that elusive playoff game.
I know what it’s about with this organization and it’s too bad they are in denial and keep thinking they’re close. The only thing they are close to is the mushy middle once again I’m afraid.
They will not make a smart move whether we like it or it or not.

😄

Shades basically says "We are not scared" regarding Watt. I knew he'd say schematics, componets or juncture. lmao

Can't disagree, they could've extended Watt knowing several DEs were going to get new contracts and set the new market price

Favorite Steelers player BY FAR. Trade him if the value is good. He will not be with this team when they actually contend and having neither TJ or JJ even in a SB is simply not acceptable.

Dude they should have given him a deal before Garrett got his. People that don't even follow the Steelers know this. You have Kentucky Steeler Derangement Syndrome. Seek help, not going to play your childish game.

Oh. My bad. I didn't realized Cleveland was keeping the Steelers in the loop of their ongoing talks with Garrett on his extension.

I'm going to ask again because I truly think you're missing the point.

What, in your mind, it's "paid him a long time ago"???

Obviously, the FO knew what they wanted to offer A-A Ron; but, let's play devil's advocate and act like the current deal would have been rejected because it wasn't enough AND, by your logic, they allocated all the money to pay TJ back in...December. Would that have been early enough for you??? Side note - there are no QBs available and Rudy is QB1 for the season.

The pitching, every week, would be unbearable...

The bitching from this one will always be unbearable I think.

If we pay to keep him we might hit the 9 win goal. If we trade him only 5 or 6 wins.
What’s the difference? You’re not a contender regardless. It’s a shame the way this fan base is so easily pacified by the contrived and mediocre.

If we hadn’t signed Rodgers I would have seen what the trade market looked like for him. But signing Rodgers means the Steelers have no choice now. They will pay him.
The trade market wouldn't be near what people think. Teams aren't giving away multiple first round picks for anyone not named Mahomes, Burrow or Allen.
