2025 preseason wk1 Steelers at Jags 8-9-25 7pm gameday thread

DK, CA3, Roman, Skow (st ace), then you have a Mexican stand-off between Woods, Scotty, KeShawn, hurleman and Roc.

Between them I think only woods and roc taylor offer a different skill set as been more of a possession/size kind of receiver, because aside from DK its midget town. On the other side, heavy TE sets mean you don't need possession WRs.

I think Taylor is definitely going to the PS as injury depth and maybe there's a case for keeping a 6th WR if CA3 stays injured and KeShawn becomes the KR
For me Woods looks about ready for the fork.

I know they like their blocking skillset …. But yeah.

Who are your top 5-6 receivers after tonight.
Dk, Austin 3 are locks.
Roman Wilson probably makes. For sure.
Skoronek is a special teams ace but the two Rookies Taylor and Williams looked good tonight. They are keeping 3 TEs for sure. You could work around it by cutting Heyward but you do need a FB if you play I. Tough decisions.

Austin
Wilson
Miller
Skowronek

Well perhaps if it is a long term start. Short term I think they could make due with what we saw today.
But unless Thompson sees grocery baggers during the season, I don't think we are getting this version of him again. And I suppose being toast is an exaggeration, the Steelers won games with Duck Hodges and also with Kenny Pickett never throwing TDs, so they could win ultraconservatively.

I saw Harmon and Sawyer with pressures. Overall I agree I would have liked to see more. Some of it was who the Steelers didn’t play. Three OLBers and their main DE.

Yes. Especially in preseason when natural athletic ability shows out more than scheme pressure... benching your top 3 olbs is gonna cut down on pressure...

But youd still like to see something from the young guys. They certainly didnt show much

I think Taylor is gonna make it over Miller .
CA3 is 5'9
Roman Wilson is 5'10
Ben Skowronek is a gamer that runs a 4.62 40 and isnt a deep threat at all. He plays special teams first abd foremost.

Miller is the same as the first two. 5'9" and quick and fast. You cant go into the season with DK metcalf as tge only guy with size and speed

Roc Taylor is 6'3 and runs a 4.49 40. He also is good at routerunning and better than Miller in runblocking

I still think they only keep 5 wrs because they are keeping 4 Tes. You cant keep 3 smurfs and a st ace in a 5 man wr roster

I know the Steelers won't, but I'd definitely cut Heyward (three TEs) and keep a sixth WR.

I think it's either Woods or Roc for the other size WR, rooting for the young one

What I always find comical is that people think Thompson is cuttable but if Howard put up the same exact game they would be yelling for him to start.

I don’t think Rodgers will last all season, so the question is this, “are Thompson or Howard better than the scrubs you can chose from later when Rodgers goes down and you need a 3rd QB”?

Hurlman really stepped up and made you take notice of they are really taking game tape into consideration. He can't be ignored,,,,,, so far.

Yes, and we can carry 3 qb's. So all is good

A Rod, Rudolph and Thompson. Put Howard on the IR to protect him from being poached from the practice squad.
Doesnt a physician have to sign off on the IR thing. And is that how you want a guy to start his career? Jaking an injury so they can keep a guy who has never shown much. Some people here are like you can't get much out of watching Will Howard play preseason and others are asking that he lies about an injury to keep him for a guy that if he comes into play they are ****** anyhow.
* it will completely slow Howards development as he is unable to practice with team. For what.

you don't think the steelers could get a bucket of warn busch lite for rudy???
They have pushed a lot of chips in Coolie. Some say all Some say no. They are not taking old man River in and hoping he stays healthy 17 weeks with Skylar Thompson and Will Howard. Not happening. You can hate Rudy. Fine. But Cmon.

Rogers, Thompson and Howard

trade rudy for a bucket of warm busch lites

Rodgers doesn’t play - start him
Thompson plays well - move him to primary backup
Howard is hurt - keep him as QB3

Rudolph plays well - Trade him at all costs no matter what you get.

“The math ain’t mathin”

I have been pondering that as well when will the baby Heyward experiment end? Just think he offers little to no value.

I think nfl plays have to be in the league for 3 years to get benefits now.
He has been in the league 3 years.
Good time to cut him.
I know that shouldn't matter but I think it does
