Cam Heyward wants a new deal

This goes to show that we don't live in the same reality as an NFL player. One year ago, he inks a 3-year contract and now thinks it isn't good enough. Imagine negotiating a salary with your employer, then going back into their office a month later and complaining about it.
He isn't going to garner any support whining about this. You signed the contract, now honor it.

So essentially him sitting out the year is meaningless. Or at least tge first 10 weeks. Clearly he played a dick game here. He took the 13.45 million payment and then started complaining before camp. What a leader!
It probably is a retirement for him. He has 2 years left on his contract. Zero leverage unless the Steelers give it to him. Allowing him to "hold-in" is giving him hope....and leverage. FO needs to step up and tell him we are not reworking your contract. Play/practice or leave the facility. Simple as that.

Especially when he’s attempting to draw teammates in to help with his petty fight.

One bad apple spoils the bunch

And since we’re on the verge of something historic here with this defense are they really gonna let Cam spoil the bunch?

Practice or take your ball and go home Cam.

I tend to think the old Steelers way of doing business would have not negotiated and played hardball -- not wanting to set a precedent. It's kind of ludicrous for a player his age to hold the team hostage, but with the Steelers they always think they are contenders every year and now are a hostage to that borne of desperation to get Tomlin off the playoff schneid.

A healthy team and organization on the rise would tell him to pound sand and find some youngsters to play.

Like Jimmy Johnson coming to the Cowboys and Mr. Cowboy himself Randy White realizing it was time to retire because Jimmy expected so much and his practices were crucibles.

Cam obviously is comfortable enough to pull this and would not have any leverage with your father's Steelers.

I wouldn’t wait till the start of the season. I draw and quarter NOW.

I’d also start focusing on replacement and line-up. Who - spells - who and sub-packages all to not include him.

I realize we don’t have a stud replacement waiting in the wings, but when he has threatened to hold out regular season games………

That’s the coaching’s “Q” to be PRO-Active NOW.

Don’t lose sight that I’d confront this debacle right now and YES, ultimatum deadline and follow through with said deadline.

Force his hold out and he retires. Check contract wording to see if you can recuperate some of the $$$$$coin$$$$$.

If you require an old man to make a defense historical you are ****** anyhow. They should have four prow bowl capable linebackers. And a stacked secondary and supposedly a stud dlineman draft pick. If they could coach some of these guys up it wouldn't really matter anyhow. But like I said you could give into Heyward and he could tear a core muscle week three. This team is not a real contender anyhow. Him and Bos can go kick rocks.

Yep just not a healthy sign that a 36 year old D-lineman can play this card and not told where to get off. This guy also is the "the" leader of the locker room which speaks to what's being passed on by example to the next generation.

Does Cam really believe he is more important to winning 10 games and getting their dicks knocked off in the wildcard then Aaron Rodgers who is playing for same money? And if he wasn't a coward hed have brought this up before tge roster bonus and they could have used the money to find a suitable replacement fir an old man.

Yep it's not like he's prime Emmitt Smith holding in or out, we're SB contenders, and he's the difference between starting 1-2 or going on a Super Bowl Run. It's embarrassing that a 36 year old D-lineman is in effect punking the team and causing a distraction. They need to deal with this and play the youngsters they've crowed about after their recent drafts.

They lost prime Rod Woodson in the opener or very early in '95 and still went to the Super Bowl with versatile, intelligent players like Carnell Lake and great coaching.

This team can barely win a game without TJ Watt and his splash plays. That's coaching.

Cam is holding out with what should be little to no leverage much like the Z man's stance on ending the war. Guys acting like they hold all the cards when in reality they don't -- but are treated like prized show ponies when their time has effectively come and gone.

Here is part I just dont get. Heyward and Bos want to break line in the sand rules the organization has lived and died by. Like they did some creativity things with Ben's last contract but that was exact same as Cam's. Last year and stupidly backloaded. So do the Steelers really believe these guys are going to back down? Cam sure as gell won't. They wrote a stupid contract with him and he's all but got it all and can freely stay home. They are almost to point of trading him to viable contender where they can juice his contract for a couple of magic beans. There really arent a hell of a lot more answers here people if he wants more game day salary. You would be breaking time and memorium team rules of we expect you to play the contract you sign. So maybe Cam Heyward to whoever Bills, Chiefs, Vikings, Commanders for a fourth. They add 10 million or whatever and done. Bos I have no idea. Same I guess.

I don't think trading him is or should be a consideration. He probably won't hold out, but if he does, who cares? If that's really how he wants to waste one of the last years of his career.

Some say you can’t suspend him, I say do it and see how things shake out in court. If/when the team loses, you bury him on the depth chart, maybe even a healthy scratch. The team already gave away all the money, so who cares at this point. Then cut him next year.

Right now I proceed with Benton and the rookie, and let the rest fight it out for the 3rd position. It’s not like they use 3 DL all that much anyway.

I dont think you will have to suspended him. He just won't play and will go home. He's got his money anyhow. If he's an ******* about it and is at practice he can go work alone on the other field.

Yep. Tell him now to start practicing or GO HOME. No more of the "hold-in". I didn't like it when Watt did it either.

There is a big difference btw a guy with one year left and two. Everyone knew they would sign Watt. It just takes time. But when a guy pills this BS. Not sure what you can do.

They can simply ignore it or throw him some incentives. He has limited options. The Steelers are really in the drivers seat…

No offense Slash but if your employer paid you 9/10 of your salary on January 1st as a work bonus are they really in the driver seat?
Sure as he can be fined out the ying yang. He actually wants more money not less…

Send him home already.

Play football that we have prepaid you for.
Else, go home.

Or be a man, send the money back and negotiate.
