Initial Thoughts - seahawks game

A small amount of truth, but half sarcasm.

They get zero pass rush. It's been crap since last year. So you either start blitzing more or you just die the other way.

It's either that or blow the thing up and go back to a real 4-3 defense.

It honestly doesn't matter this coaching staff can not out scheme the elite.

They can't even do the most basic things. Run the ball and stop the run.

And for the most part they tackle like ****.

Just venting.
Well they are not going to do that. He fired the best DC the team ever had (apologies to old timers but I dont even know the name of an actual DC from the 70s)to do it his way. And frankly they are terrible when they bring 6.

Ill give you the most obvious example of a lack of situational awareness of the coaching staff. What Coach from 10 year old up is going to have his running back run at least 70 yards and then go in for the next play. Zero. None. That is just one of many problems this man has in his checkers vs. Chess mentality.

How did Rodgers last pass go today?
You are conveniently leaving the fact out the Wilson was terrible last week while Rodgers was not. Wilson had 168 yrds <50% completion and scored 6 points. Both Rodgers and Wilson have some left in the tank, but Rodgers showed today how slow he is and needs protection. Fields was good against us and terrible today. On our team a QB is not going to make a difference w/o protection

Based on what we've seen, the Steelers are a bad team right now. They struggled to beat the Jets who the Bills demolished today. That is a barometer for where this team is at.

Consistent problems year after year and a bunch of hot air talking about change from Tomlin. There's no change, it's the same story every year.

Regarding Watt, he's being paid too much for his production right now. However, it's back pay for how much he's covered for this defense. Just like Ben in his prime, it's very clear now how much Watt playing like a superhero is what helped propel the Steelers to all those wins when the defense was good. He's not dominant right now and the defense blows.

I think there's a good balance of young and old talent on the team, but the young talent either doesn't develop or regresses after a season. The coaching staff just cannot get it done anymore and it's so far beyond time to make a change.

They haven't really hit on a first round pick since Watt in 2017.

You can only select so many players like Terrell Edmunds, Devin Bush, Kenny Pickett and Broderick Jones in the first round before you end up like the Jaguars or Browns. Troy Fautanu seems to be struggling as well.

Things might get a lot uglier once Watt and Heyward are gone.

The mere thought of a losing season rather than getting blown out in the 1st round of the playoffs makes me ...

Well, not care.

I’ve never been so ambivalent about the Steelers as I have been the last 2 years. I watch out of curiosity and root for them, but don’t get upset at losses anymore. It’s just all too predictable and it won’t change until Rooney steps in and either fires Tomlin or fires all of his coaches and lets someone else hire them.

You can argue Pickett and Najee were our best 1st rounds picks and we traded them away. Pickett had a winning record w/ a terrible coordinator and Najee was a solid all around player. The jury is still out on Troy and of course Harmon. I still think alot of it has to do w/ coaching even w/ Pickett. We had Canada and a terrible Oline which is not a good combo. The common theme is the oline stinks and we have high pedigree players on it. Almost everyone seemed happy w/ our line picks so either everyone is wrong or they are not being coached / schemed properly. I am going to go w/ option 2

Yep. The Steelers players get paid the same, win or lose. The owners obviously don't care about what is happening on the field, don't care that Mike Tomlin is ineffective, unprepared, and a significant reason why the Steelers are 1-7 in their last 8 games.

If they don't care, why should I?

Well, Warren had another dismal performance running. Hopefully he flips a switch and turns it around. We need a running game more than ever. While I have been told getting a 1000 yards in today's NFL is nothing special....Warren's pace will fall way short of this simple and easy goal. Dude needs to start balling out. Hit the holes. Where are his big plays at? We need them. We need him to be that back that Harris apparently wasn't. It won't be Gainwell. Johnson has had 2 carries for minus one yard in his carreer to date. Warren needs to step up and be that guy we all were told he was!!!!! A 3.4 yard average per carry is simply below the line. His longest run this season is 9 yards. He had a few of those. We simply need more from him. No?

That's because they have **** coaches and they don't teach crap. The defense is on the HC.

I know nothing is going to happen, but that's what should happen.

Well they'd better start scheming because this is losing football and it damn sure isn't going to reach championship level ever.

There is nothing wrong with TJ, he just understands that the most important stat you can have for DPY is ALMOST getting there. **** like actually TFL, sacks, FF ect mean nothing you want to win DPY almost doing them is the ticket.

I don't think we would be any worse off without Watt and Heyward. We would be in a better cap situation though I believe. Thing is. I don't blame them. Scheme and philosophy go a long way.....and that is on Tomlin.

No doubt, but I was referring more to which aspect of the play on the field is the biggest issue right now, though Tomlin definitely has a hand in all of it.

Usually, Tomlin's defenses at least do some thing's well, but it's a been a total cluster **** since last December or so.

Teryl Austin might not survive the season if this continues. Someone has to take the blame.
With how much the defense is being paid and this stretch of awful play since last year, they cannot wait long to make a move.

it’s bad enough that they have a power back with no shiftiness or break away speed as the returner, but after his “Bubba Bueford” Moment he was pulled and Tomlin puts in HIS STARTING RB! WHAT?!?! Why would you throw Warren into that situation of full speed wrecking balls?

Also, Why is CAIII returning punts? Put in Roman Wilson, he returned kicks at Michigan for piss sakes.

This coaching staff makes us feel like we’re on some Practicle jokers show. Would someone please come out and tell us we’ve been played so the real Steelers organization can come out and play please?
It’s mind boggling Badcat. I don’t like coming on here and question the decisions about the coaching. But how the hell can I not? There are so many things I disagree with. When they drafted Roman,I too expected him to return kicks in his first couple years.

I’m certainly no rocket scientist in the brain department.

My old painter friend. I could never understand how this ugly mother-****** got all these young good looking gals. We’d have a few beers and he would just laugh and say “ bull-**** baffles brains”. CMT is the biggest bull- ******* in the business. If my limited brain capacity can see this, how the hell can the Rooney’s and Tomlin’s fans not? I mean I saw it for the first time during the Tebow game,he should be long gone.

Accountability.

I stop getting upset years ago. I will vent here. I've known the deal for a long time and unfortunately have a very long memory with this stuff.

I sit with arms folded with zero expectations. I've been trained to expect some sort of run to get to .500 or a hair above, then prepare for a horrific stomping in a playoff game.

Tomlin will be the Steeler's all time regular season winingest coach. This is what Rooney wants....Then after that the magical number of 200. Nothing else matters....if we get Tomlinship's along the way....great. It is what it is.

Watching Fautanu in camp and the preseason, he looks the part of a very good offensive lineman, then they get to the regular season and all that talent seems to disappear. Just look at the regression from Jones, JPJ, and Benton after all had promising rookie seasons. Khan/Weidl are drafting pretty well, IMO. But when your coaching staff can't put together a defense loaded with talent, it's a tough ask to expect them to develop a young inexperienced group on offense.

What week can we start the fire MT chants this season? My friend was asking.
There was a little bit of it in the home finale last year, a lot of Tomlin talk from fans exiting the game as well. It was happening today as well. Tomlin was the main talk on the 93.7 The Fan postgame show, actually, about the only talk.

1. Have you watched our worthless OL?
2. Warren was probably one of the few highlights for the Steelers today.

Granted Seattle got some points on turnovers but I couldn't help but notice that The League's Highest Paid Defense has given up 30+ points in each of their first two games.
