All underachiving team

It simply cannot be that all these premium pick players are all bad. At what point do they start looking at the position coaches?
Geez! You have two first round tackles, a second round center, fourth round guard. Can they all be bad or is it just they’re not being coached up.
Then you have third round picks Roman Wilson who can’t get on the field and Caleb Johnson who isn’t exactly a speed merchant returning kicks.
Something is most definately not right and the front office needs to dig into this coaching staff.

10yr of digging

Salute the nation

I love all the talk about schemes and players not being coached up and "we should do this" or "we should do that". As long as Rooney owns the team, just sit back and get used to it. Nothing will change until he is bought out or turns the keys over - and we have no idea if his son will be any better.

Tomlin is only a handful of wins away from Chuck's all time regular season victory total. A few more away from 200. I truly believe this is why Rooney gave Tomlin his last extension
Reading this, I had to go see something laid out in front of me, so I'll lay it out for everyone else.

Coach Noll Coach Cowher Coach Tomlin
Regular Season Wins 193 149 184
Playoff Wins 16 12 8 Total Wins 209 161 192
Years Coached 23 15 18 (and counting)
Most Consecutive Calendar Years Without a Playoff Win 4 3 8
Regular Season Win % .566% .623% .631%
Playoff Win % .667% .571% .421%

10 more wins for Tomlin to break Noll's Regular Season Wins record. I believe he easily does this before his current contract is up.
17 more wins for Tomlin to break Noll's Total Wins record. I believe he does this before his current contract is up.
There is no way Tomlin breaks Noll's Playoff Wins record, nor do I believe he will even catch Cowher's Playoff Win mark.

Now, I don't want to get bogged down in Noll's first 9 years were 14 game seasons and the 1982 strike shortened season, whereas Cowher only coached 16 game seasons, and Tomlin is mostly 16 games seasons but now coaching in his fifth 17 game season.
The ONLY thing that matters to us Steeler fans is the playoffs and the Lombardi's.
Those are the stats above highlighted and bolded in red.
Almost all of Tomlin's playoff success is from his first four years.
Between 2007 and 2010 - Tomlin made the playoffs 3 out of 4 years, had 5 playoff wins, 2 SB appearances, and one Lombardi.
Between 2011 and 2024 - Tomlin made the playoffs 9 out of 14 years, had 3 playoff wins, 0 SB appearances, and zero Lombardis.

This is what the MSM and football talking heads NEVER talk about EVER.
When they tout the "never a losing season" trope, they never caveat with, "but a putrid .421% playoff success rate."

I have never liked RB Johnson since they drafted him. Meanwhile Skataboo for the Giants is gonna be a star. That's who I really wanted at RB.

Hard to imagine how many other organizations would tolerate that type of postseason performance (or lack thereof) from a coach.

The Steelers wear the "three coaches in over a half century" designation as a badge of honor, and merely making the playoffs on a regular basis seems to be where the bar is now set for the Rooney family.

The standard is substandard.
