A common misconception imho that players adore Tomlin and want to play for him…if that is the case where are all these players lining up when free agency rolls around?

The Steelers generally pay at or above market value for free agents, and it’s usually past their prime guys that seek the cushy confines of a Tomlin led squad that can’t find work elsewhere.

He's been saying stupid things since 2009 to varying degrees. And I get it is frustrating. The guy seems to lack self awareness. You'd think if he didn't learn before last year he would have learned after the "that's why I'm highly compensated" comment. But he doesn't. Or perhaps they keep their mouth shut because they legitimately know they f-d up. There was much blame to go around for the Cincy loss between coaches and players alike. If you watched any film at all it wasnt entirely upon one or the other. I saw bad scheming in film study such as when Chase was wide open on the final drive and I saw players screw up their assignments such as when Benton moved out of his gap and allowed Brown to run 27 yards earlier in the game. Clearly youre a armchair QB for a reason because you suck even at that. It's really easy for people to be critical from the sidelines. Its far more easier apparently to be irrational and lack constructive criticism providing those takes especially if they have had a bone to pick since day one and lack any sort of objectiveness.

Tomlin gets old players that were once good and now a little slower, less willing to tackle, but he pins his hopes that the aging player will return to his old glory. Everyone gets old. Aches. Pains. Slow down. Tomlin pops off and says how great his defense is. Yea....if it were 5 years ago maybe. Square pegs round holes. Tomlin thinks he can put a jigsaw puzzle together. He tries every year. Which young players has he " developed "? Herbig? He doesn't let him play enough. Highsmith? He had to move him to the right side and teach him a spin move. It worked. Highsmith is more easily neutralized now, they have tape on him. He can set the edge. Herbig isn't trusted to do that.
