Tomlin's teams have been setting all kinds of records for the wrong reasons over the past decade.
As time passes, I've just become less shocked with each new one I see.
It's absolutely astonishing how he constantly still avoids losing records like he does.

You'd think at some point the Steelers would've lucked into an additional score.
Over the past five years, this team has played like a bottom-5 team more than a team capable of winning a playoff game.
While we acknowledge that our first quarter story has been less than optimal, football is our game and our business is winning. Obviously we seek comfort in the fact that games are not one, but four quarters in length. We know that full participation results in a singularly focused journey to score more points than the opposing nameless gray faces by the time we step out of the stadium.

It doesn't. The schemes are lacking. And they seem to become terrible at the most visible moments. I saw the 2 DL thing right away down near the goal line because of the camera angle CBS gave, when Chicago ran it in without resistance. You see it and it's like WTH? That's where i have been so wrong about Tomlin. That hasn't worked for a long time if it ever did. I thought he would see it at some point, but he doesn't. So I don't blame the players for that play. That's all coaching. But what is overlooked is that most of the drive down the field before that TD the Steelers were more traditional if I remember right, 3 DL, Watt, Herbig, and all that, and nobody beat anybody from Chicago to impact that drive. It was a dance contest out there.
I would so like to see another coach to see what these players are, because I'm not sure. You know Watt, for example, but is Queen any good? Or Wilson, Porter, or Harmon and so on. Remember when Cowher came on and he took players like Lloyd and Woodson to another level? The thing is they showed something under Noll in those last years, even with some of the struggles. You knew something good was there. I just don't know with this current crop.
In the words of Mike Tomlin, truly historic.
But nothing will change in Pittsburgh and Daffy Duck will continue dancing.

There are lots of other legitimate criticisms of him that get brought up here and you love to nitpick at them here for whatever reason, but you can’t get around 8 years of playoff futility-his press conferences, or how the players block tackle etc. are minute to the conversation because he hasn’t won a playoff game in 8 YEARS
all your nitpicking about what’s fair or unfair to criticize him about is just a poor attempt to deflect from that. He’s the head coach he’s responsible for everything at the end of the dayNo NFL coach at any other franchise besides the one Art Rooney II runs still has a job after not winning a playoff game in 8 years, no minutia or excuse or yeah buts would matter, full stop

Which makes how they still manage to win 8-10 games every year even more impressive.
Maybe "impressive" isnt the right word, considering the same problems always persist from year to year, but you get the point.
Saying that, there are glorious Tomlin records/streaks abound in the post season as well.
I'm starting to think we're looking at Tomlin wrong, as he has NOT become mediocre.
He's become extraordinary in his own way.

Winning only becomes important to the owners if losing starts to affect the bottom line. That's it. As long as the fans keep supporting with their money, there is no reason to ruffle the feathers of the golden goose.
Some owners are passionate about the sport and really want to win. Our team owners have been at this so long, the winning isn't what drives them /At least that's how it seems) To them, this is just a business, and business is doing well for now. No changes.

I stopped spending money on them years ago, except for going to two games and buying one jersey for my wife. And I guess Su day Ticket counts. ****! Other than that I dindo nuffin.

He’s extraordinary in that he has coached conservative offense into the team so well it has spanned multiple OCs and QBs. No one deviates from it except the WRs who are vastly ignored, get upset, then get traded because they want to produce.
Tomlin is an excellent coach at winning games where they can muddy it up. Other coaches aren’t stubborn enough to play this style of ball. He’s like a pusher in tennis. However, this is why they usually get crushed by great teams—they know how to overcome safe play.
Considering Tomlin’s approach isn’t working in terms of pushing the team forward and he hasn’t adjusted to the modern game to the point where everyone is calling parts of his scheme outdated, he’s morphing into a bad coach.
The only way that Shades' seat is remotely warm is if Deuce looks at all the money he's spending on The League's Highest Paid Defense and they're at the bottom in nearly every statistical category with a supposed defensive genius as head coach.
