It was mentioned today on asked and answered by Labs and here is what he had to say.:fyi:

"For me, the statute of limitations on Ben Roethlisberger’s “personal issues” has expired. He never was arrested, or charged, or even detained by police for anything, ever, and in the six years since then Roethlisberger has become a husband and a father, and by all accounts a model citizen in every way. And you can bet that if some incriminating cell phone video existed anywhere to the contrary it would be all over the web. I have no idea why it has taken so long for Roethlisberger to be appreciated by the talking heads, but to me that shows how much those guys don’t know."

This seems to put all the discussion of got away with etc to rest.:)

I would like to think this is true. He has been a model citizen. He has been a model husband. He has been a model team mate. All the tangables are in his favor. ONLY one thing. The preverbial hater. No matter the time span, once accused, always accused. Kind of like a convicted felon, the stigma stays. ONLY thing is, Rothlesburgher never committed the felony / crime.

Salute the nation

I read this yesterday also and think it definitely shut people up but I am sure it won't. However, it was good to read and see it put into true perspective like that.

I'm glad this came out but you guys are correct. Some will never be convinced.

There will always be strong haters on Ben, and he did bring a lot on himself -- not just the assault claims but I'd say more because he has been a jerk. I had the chance to see it up close and personal -- as well as from people in the organization. Everyone knows that he and Hines weren't best of friends -- and his general treatment to media and arrogance.

Unfortunately -- that will likely never go away; there is only one George Foreman (who remade a public image like no other).

In the end, all that should matter to Ben is the way he handles himself and treats the individuals who are directly impacted by his life/playing football for Steelers. None of us can change mind of mindless trolls or beyond ignorant people who do not want to know the truth.

FSF summed it up pretty good. The haters will hang onto it until it forever. Ben's past is not spotless and he was known as a big jerk, but with a family now, it will not matter to those that want to rip him apart. He needs to keep doing what he's been doing and live his life. The support will be there for him.

As to the jerk status lots of people are and have no reason to be. Very famous people often have fans that spend time just stocking or at the least following them around being a pest. A constant stream of this could turn all but the most grounded individuals into jerks. Not saying it is an excuse but that there are some mitigating circumstances not just with Ben but the famous jerks everywhere. Imagine this everywhere you go someone wants to stand next to you and take a picture with you, talk to you, or ask you something, many of the things they do are repetitive not the same person the same type of thing over and over. The only way to avoid that would be to become a prisoner in your own home.

This is not a jab at anyone that collects autographs or pictures etc. It just might put into perspective that sooner or later these guys and gals will reach their limit with this stuff and likely from then on become jerks. Exceptions are rare, when you toss in the fact that many of these folks went from spoiled college kid to millionaire it is not hard to see that they are not even close to ready for a change like that.

He was a jerk when he was younger. Yo boy attitude and won a SB in 2 years. He was THE JERK. But now he's settled. He's taken his offensive line on yearly vacations. This year is the second year in a row he has looked to hook up with his receivers to get some pre-season chemistry. Dude might have been an entitled prick to the old vets, but now he's a team leader.

The thing that niggles me about Ben the person is this: Ben had a season for the ages last year. Unbelievable really. At the time I felt he was MVP. When you see the talking heads speak about it in retrospect, even they say wow. He moved up to number two QB on several rankings. It has been acknowledged that on some metrics he was number one. YET he couldn't even win his own teams nomination. Like WTF. Bell had a great season, but I just can't see Brady, Manning (either), Rogers in that exact same situation and not winning the nomination of his team mates. Kinda like Draft day. Guy says everything right, but his own team mates won't even pick him off the ground. I just can't figure it out.

Haters gonna hate.

EVERY time there is a cheating scandal i get to hear how the steelers of 70s cheated with 'roods, even though they were not illegal by law or a banned substance by the league. Although I've never bought into the "everyone does it" argument there is plenty of evidence that steroids were widespread in pro football, begining in the early 60's with the Chargers. So why is it held against us and not, say, the 60's Packers (who also had a gambling scandal)? Because we are the most consistent winners in the super bowl history of pro football. Haters will never let that go, in spite of evidence and facts.

The same will apply to Ben. Facts don't matter to a hater, they want to hate so no mater what he does or what he accomplishes professionally or otherwise, he will always be labeled as "Rapelisburger".

I just wonder if he could have asked not to be considered for that role or made a statement to that effect. Or was he selected initially and then turned it down. Sometimes guys do that and the vote takes place behind closed doors so we will not know what happened.

Anything is possible. I've never heard Ben say anything but the right thing in front of the press etc. His consistent snubbing (Santonio Holmes for Super Bowl MVP) tells me he has rubbed some people the wrong way.

I don't recall the snubbing but could it be that he and some others might not have been all that crazy about stonios life style? Sometimes people don't like the people they work with for what ever reason but they still work together. Looks like the steelers organization snubbed him too.

I'm talking about the snubbing outside the team. It's always a begrudgingly given pro bowl. Watch the top 100. He will be top 20 or so when he should be top 10 for sure. He is always 1 peg down from where he should be. The media doesn't like him. Seems like a lot of players don't like him.

He should have killed some dogs that way he could be forgiven.

I said way back when that there was nothing wrong with Ben and Stonio that a wife and a couple of kids couldn't fix.

Who beat me to it???? Hataz gon hate...
