You must remember something about Chuck. He was taking over a disaster in 1969. I was there and remember quite well.
He inherited virtually nothing from the Bill Austin regime and yes his first year was 1-13 but every year saw improvement with the roster and the record until they broke through in 1972.
You could see it each year as back then it was strictly building through the draft. Chuck, Dan, Billy Nunn, built this dynasty literally from the ground up.

And the key to that was Dan Rooney finally convincing Billy Nunn at the Roosevelt Hotel to work part time for the Steeler to be a scout .Dan wanted him to come on board full-time, but Bill didn’t want to give up his work at the Pittsburgh Courier which was a black owned newspaper in the city at the time..
The reason that Bill Nunn was seen as valuable by. Dan Rooney was due to Nunns yearly review of All American football players from the historically black colleges.

My point was that today, 12-30 gets you fired. No one would have a chance to develop like Noll did.

Defensive Coordinator2023Vikings0–0Missed playoffs.
Defensive Coordinator2024Vikings0–1Lost in the Wild Card round to the 49ers (the same team Klint Kubiak just destroyed).
Defensive Coordinator2025Vikings0–0Finished 9-8 and missed the playoffs by one game this month.
So you have what 6 times that he had an opportunity for a playoff win and none to show for it not as a HC not as a DC.

There is candidates that have playoff wins and better winning percentages.

Not sure why he is anyone’s top choice knowing whomever we get probably hangs around for awhile.

Again, totally agree. Every job should be the same way - best man or woman for the job........but it isn't. I'm confident that we'll get a good one, however.

If the Steelers do not get who they want this season for whatever reason, I can see them signing McCarthy as a stop gap coach, until the new guy that they absolutely are certain on, comes into the fold.
Could be a possible one or two year bridge.
The Steelers have a lot of work to do on and off the field. It’s not gonna happen as quickly as we like, as far as getting back to a serious contender, and without the right head coach for the long-term, it would be a disservice to whoever they selected if that person was a reach and not ready to rebuild a once proud franchise

The Emperor was really special. He was old school from the word go.
Old pulling guard from the Paul Brown coached Cleveland Browns when they actually had a team.
Chuck was a great teacher of players and was as tough as nails.

Flores seems to be getting a lot of interest and while he's certainly light years better than the Steeler's previous DC's his tenure as a HC is underwhelming.

Perhaps he'll surprise everyone, but if he's the guy it won't energize the fan base. This team needs new blood.

Anything less than a dynamic offense with the coach either keeping his nose out of it OR a coach that's an offensive guru and it's a terrible hire. I'd take Flores as DC but would much rather have Schwartz.

If I had to put the candidates into tiers:

Tier 1:
Nate Scheelhaase, Chris Shula, Klay Kubiak
-I want an offensive-minded head coach or a coach who will modernize the entire process. Candidates from the Rams and 49ers are well-schooled in these areas.

Tier 2:
Brian Flores, Mike McCarthy, Jesse Minter
-I think all three can be good with a high floor, but also a low ceiling. McCarthy has the same resume as Tomlin/Harbaugh/Payton/Carroll and Flores' time in Miami reminds me too much of what we've seen in Pittsburgh.

Tier 3:
Anthony Weaver, Jeff Hafley, Ejiro Evero
-Zero buzz factor with any of these guys. Miami and Carolina haven't been any good and I have a hard time separating Hafley from his time in Boston College.

I just don't want a retread because Art II deems it a safe pick, that would include McCarthy and Gruden as well as Flores.
Any of those picks gets us Tomlin 2.0
 
Shula seems to have a pretty stout resume and he has a SB ring. he is still in the playoffs and may win another ring this year.

I want a fresh start someone that has not been a head coach but has a strong resume. Seeing how I am not white or black I will just come out and say it. Get off the ******* race bullshit. seems like most blacks want another black head coach and a lot of whites don't want another black head coach. I really don't give a **** who you are if you are only suggesting black head coaches maybe you should take a long look at yourself same thing for pushing for a white head coach. how about we just push for the best option available.

I want a FRESH start. I do not want another coach that has been a head coach. I want someone with fresh ideas that will bring excitement to this team and a coach that has head coaching experience is more than likely going to be stuck in in his ways.

Hell hire a Latino women with big **** and a sweet *** that would be refreshing and exciting.


For the 2025 NFL season, Chris Shula's Los Angeles Rams defense ranked highly, finishing around top 10 in points allowed (10th), top 5 in takeaways (5th), and solid in run defense (11th fewest yards), consistently tough in the red zone (3rd) despite some pass defense struggles, showcasing an effective unit that excelled at preventing scores despite giving up yards.

  • Points Allowed: #10 in the league.
  • Takeaways: #5 in the NFL (26 total).
  • Red Zone Defense: #3 in the league.

Shula is definitely one of my favorites. I wish he was offense based but for the task at hand he really shows strong X and O capability.

I would prefer Shula but would not be disappointed in Scheelhaase. just don't know if he is ready to be the head man yet. a lot of difference between working with a QB and being an HC
