Steelers hiring McCarthy

I wanted a Steelers lunch box I ended up getting this workman type grey lunchbox. Other kids got ones with Hulk and a thermos inside, etc.

I was pissed. 😅
We only had black and white tv for most of my growing up. It's not that we were real poor or anything, just paycheck to paycheck like everyone in the 70s, but it was more my parents just didn't give a shiit about tv. But that NFL lunchbox I got around the 3rd grade is how I learned the colors of a lot of the teams.

my mum had no time to be packing a lunch,, we just got school lunch, they were so cheap. I always wanted one of those cool lunch boxes too. I swear i wore a hand me down tossle cap that was yellow and blue,, i think my aunt made it. It was a hand me down. Tough skin jeans that you had to walk stiff legged because the knees were so reinforced... smh
Tough skins! I remember those. Winners or Jox sneakers?

These were the first ones i remember. They were a big upgrade from the Faux chuck taylor low tops from Murphy mart.

Ok. After the presser I’m rooting for the guy. I mean you can genuinely see how much Pittsburgh and the Steelers mean to him. I reserve the right to change my mind.
If we can get a solid DC, OL coach, WR2, and keep Rodgers (if he comes back )up, I think we can compete for the North next year.

Tough skins were they a Sears deal?

I remember my gym coach told me I wore my Tough skins out from the inside. Big compliment

I like how a Steelers "insider" revealed that Shula bombed his first interview with the Steelers making them move quickly to McCarthy.

More like Rooney was not prepared for the fan blowback after he announced the new coach.

They are scrambling and have to make stuff up to throw Shula under the bus to try and justify why they didn't wait a couple of extra days to interview Shula in person before making their other hire.

What qualifies as a Steelers insider these days anyway because there sure seems to be a lot of them?

An "insider" didn't report it, Poni did.

I doubt Shula bombed the interview, however, he may get shut out of a job in a hiring cycle that had nearly one-third of the league looking for a head coach. He's apparently not blowing many teams away either.

Shula could have bombed it in Pittsburgh's interview. Rooney himself said he doesn't do rebuild, maybe when they asked him what his plan of attack would be, it was to shake things up and start fresh...that's what the fans want, not what Rooney wants.

Yeah Sears. Winners were Sears too. I just laugh today...everything is so disposable. You get done with a practice kids are leaving their Nike or Under Armor stuff behind and don't give a shiit. Our Mom's would have lost their minds on us leaving our tough skins probably.

What makes people so sure Shula is any good? Is it that he just isn't McCarthy?

He's gotten a lot out of later round picks and undrafted players with the Rams, particularly in the secondary.

Between his grandfather and father, he's been around the NFL coaching fraternity his entire life. He's currently coaching under one of the alltime greats.

I'm OK with McCarthy, but I think Shula might have deserved more interest than he received from the Steelers and other teams.

He and Scheelhass might have been victims of teams preferring veteran HCs this offseason due to the "Sean Payton effect" among other things.

It also didn't help that the Rams' success had limited other teams' access to them during the peak of the hiring cycle.

The Steelers 2005 title run forced Ken Whisenhunt to wait a year longer for a HC job than he probably should have.

I never foresaw Tomlin leaving and therefore wouldn't know Chris Shula or any other assistant on another team, really. It seemed like wish shopping, so I didn't do it. But this young and upcoming stuff...it's great if you get Ben Johnson, and we'll see with him and Coen in the next few years, but you could end up with a Mike McDaniel, Dennis Allen or Brian Callahan. Young and upcoming could mean better, but it isn't a lock. When I saw McDaniel for the first time I thought this guy looks like the pajama boy from one of the political memes going around at the time. How can he command a room? He actually did better than I expected after seeing him. I don't know if McCarthy will be any good, but I'm just happy to see something different.

Yeah, old Sears was a big part of our family growing up. My mother worked for years at the Sears in East liberty
Spend a lot of time in that store and because mom worked there and got a discount, the bulk of our clothes came from Sears, including tough skin jeans, which I always hated!
