Coordinators Thread

I always thought Butler was better than he was given credit for as Tomlin transformed the defense more into his style and less of what Butler wanted.

Butler himself stated he never got to call the defense. He was a puppet, so we never really got to know what his defense would have been capable of.

Is all confirmed?

Can someone tell me, why not look at Jim Schwartz? We probably wouldn't lose to CLE again, huge win for this team.

As for TJ, he has to be an option for trading, has to be. Pittsburgh blew that signing, strategy/amount and it needs to be addressed.
He is currently under contract with the browns.
He typically runs a 43 I think.

Don't get me wrong, hate playing against his defenses

Oh and our Oline coach is going to the Bills…

Oh and our Oline coach is going to the Bills…

The Bills must think he did a great job with the Steelers.

After watching the Steelers OL over the last several years, I don't get it, but I'm not Joe Brady or that backstabbing weasel the Bills have at GM.

The Steelers don't have a bad roster. There are a few holes and a huge missing piece at QB. Teams can acquire a QB in ways other than getting the No. 1 overall pick. Losing games = losing jobs. I completely understand why the FO and HC don't want to blow it up.
Gotta disagree with you here on the roster

Our offensive skill players are easily bottom 1/3 of the league

We need another solid offensive tackle

The DL relies on Heyward to put on his Superman cape to be decent at stopping the run, maybe Harmon is better next year and becomes dominant but Heyward is due for a decline and this group is below average when Cam isn’t great

The inside LBs are underperforming and you probably need an impact guy brought in

In the secondary Porter Jr could be a star. Ramsey stinks as a safety and got cooked badly late in the year. Elliot is good when healthy but we really need a true FS and a CB2

Lots of holes

Two more are being interviewed to help with the OL.

With the two hired as a DC and D coach it looks like they want to double up and have a larger coaching staff.

If they're really spending more on the staff, it's about time.

The Steelers were at an increasing disadvantage from a game planning and preparation standpoint every year other teams' staffs grew while theirs stayed the same.

Uh, interesting.

Per yahoo,”The Cowboys will miss Chinyoung, who helped develop a bevy of young offensive linemen in the last three seasons. Tackle Tyler Guyton, guards Tyler Smith, Tyler Booker and T.J. Bass, as well as centers Cooper Beebe and Brock Hoffman all grew under Chinyoung. That group culminated in helping guide three different running backs all reach the 1,000-yard mark in each of Chinyoung’s seasons with the Cowboys”

Just odd to have a college OL and an NFL OL coach take the RB spot if the report was correct.

True. But what better way to teach RBs than to know the Oline schematics..

Also not the thread but maybe they will bring in UFA Dowdle to fit the scheme.

Hired.

Adam Henry— ties to Dallas as Wr Coach
James Campen—Played and coached….Green Bay
Raymond Chinyoung— Dallas Cowboys coach
Patrick Graham— hired by Mike McCarthy as a Lb Coach in Green Bay
Scott McCurley—-worked for Mike in GB,then worked for him in Dallas.
Gerald Alexander— second stint with Pittsburgh. …… familiarity.
Jason Simmons— oh look. Mike had him in GB for several years.

Is there more?

Now. I’m not doing this as an overly critical comment. Simply an observation with a comment or two.

Me being a bit of an A-hole thinks WTF ? Are you giving all your buddies jobs? Are you scorching the earth high and low for the best candidate? Or simply going with familiarity? WTF? Something stinks here.

Optimistic me says maybe they are the best hire, and as any player or coach I will give them every opportunity to succeed. And we have to trust our new HC to put the best talent forward.

James Campen is to GB what Munchak is to us. This is a huge upgrade, and bringing Chinyoung with him is big, because he's the rising star, can take over when Campen is done.

Graham is intriguing, players love him, advanced analytics say he's good, but we shall see, and bringing in Simmons as well, he was getting DC looks, so it looks like we're bringing in familiar faces with Mike, but also expanding the staff. By the looks of things, doubling the size.

The difference in McCarthy bringing in familiar faces and Tomlin doing the same, McCarthy's guys have buzz, they are JUST buddies. Track records and excitement. Tomlin's buddies were just guys to fill titles.
