Adam Schefter:
Falcons quarterback Kirk Cousins is expected to be released before the start of the new league year in March, allowing him to choose where or if he wants to play in 2026, league sources told ESPN. The Falcons recently restructured Cousins' contract with the idea that it would be easier for both sides if the four-time Pro Bowler was released sooner rather than later, giving Cousins the optionality that he wanted and adding financial flexibility for Atlanta.

Could Coach Mac make it work with Cousins? I wonder what it opinion is of Cousins. At this point, the Steelers need to do due diligence on every QB that's available. He's far from my first choice, but also not my last.

Cousins or Rodgers?

Given the choice I'd take Rodgers. But if he retires, Cousins could potentially run the McCarthy offence until a younger option beats him.

I was looking at QBs on the teams with new HCs to see if any would be cut if the team wanted to go in another direction. But I saw Cousin's cap hit and thought no way they'd want to take that hit. I guess the recent restructure and Penix being on a rookie deal helped with the decision. I'd rather rip the band-aid off and go with a young guy but I don't think the FO agrees. He may be a fallback option if AR retires. Maybe he does a Minn reunion tour if JJ falls out of favor.

Don’t Want another geriatric that is ready for the retirement hall.

Tomlin’s way isn’t going to stay, who would want it to. Continuously setting g the team backwards isn’t a good thing.

McCarthy knows he needs younger, not older.

This 100%

Any return of geriatric QB is just wasted time in pursuit of more short term mediocrity. That would be a massive failure in the transition of this franchise.

A wise man once said the Steelers need to be more proactive and less reactive…no time to start that tendency like the present, if fact Peyote Fox tells me NOW is the ONLY time to start being proactive and quit being reactive.
