Super Bowl eats,…………. What’s for supper ?

I’m cooking for one, but when the family was all here, it was a lot easier cooking for a mob.

There is a lot of truth in that statement “harder to cook for one than it is for an army”

No worries and if your brother in-law gets out of hand, tell him you know people that can settle him down…………..

Mrs. Fan is still ill - nasty lungs - so we are calling off and staying home.
 
It’s not sweet like sugar sweet, but more like spice sweet………

The apricot is hard to explain other than it gives a faint hint of it and I relate it as the old west sort of taste.

Wagon train, chuck wagon, cowboy bean camp fire.

Maybe I shouldn’t have revealed the secret, once some find out…… they overly question it and say no-way.

I just know it’s good.

Any kind of meat works, today’s meat is deer-burger.
I’ve done cubed steak, roasts, (all beef cuts, except expensive steak), pork, all good, but I’m no expert either.

In my younger days, i experimented a lot.

Going to a SB gathering….Pulled Pork has been slow cooing by the chef for 24 hours. Plus all the usual nibbles.

I remember the days we used to go to The Breakers in Point Roberts for Super Bowl in my early 20’s. 1200 people of glorious drunken stupidity. Then live bands after the game. The wise people always made sure they had Monday off. Oh to be young and invincible again.

Maybe not, but sugar was a strong staple back then. You’d be surprised on what Pioneers preserved for eating and how they did it. Chokecherry / plumb / grapes /was an abundant berry and that was pretty common back then. So a “jam” was result available and they used it, but you never know.

Chili consisted of beans and fatback, with what ever kind of spice the pioneers encountered.

Biscuit and beans was probably the Cowboy’s main meal for 1/2 his life, especially when on the trail. Add in coffee.

So maybe the apricot was delayed to a degree, but eventually it was there as well. Whether they used it or not isn’t the question, the real question is if there was enough curiosity to use it. My guess is yes, desperate times to singlefy themselves took food in many different directions.

the traditional Texas receipe doesn't incude bean....

beans were added during the depression to stretch the meal....

you're a grown *** man....put whatever you like in your bean soup

but even they knew beans did not go in chili
I can eat it both ways. I prefer chili without beans, but my wife-who makes amazing tasting chili-just HAS to have beans in it.
