Rico Dowdle

I like it, obviously needed another proven rb that can catch the ball. Another pick up that relieves pressure to draft one albeit doesn’t rule out an addition on day three in case Johnson turns out to be a flop.

Great sign, way outplayed his counterpart, saw some nice zoneruns up the middle. Now let's get a good LG and either a

I like this signing. Very good back who’s had success in Dallas and Carolina. I actually like him more than Kenny Gainwell.
Rico has had more successful seasons whereas Gainwell just this last season I guess as his breakout year.
I like all three moves today! Michael Pittman was a very nice pickup and Uncle Rico as well.
The CB Jamel Dean they signed from the Bucs was solid signing as well. Very physical and graded out very high this past season.
Now they need to replace Seamulo at LG since he signed with the Cards.

I would like them to address FS. As well as G next..

After today's moves how much cap space do they have?

I’m not too big a fan of this move. Mediocre runningback to me.But I’m open to have my mind changed. This is a McCarthy move for sure.
His statistics look solid the last two years. His total yards last year was more than Gainwell. Almost identical yards per average. Except he showed better yards after contact.

For me it is a solid move which I wouldn’t stamp with a mediocre label.

Dowdle is an early down back. Solid downhill, physical runner but he's not the receiver that Gainwell is. I think Warren gets moved back to 3rd down back and will have the Gainwell role from last year. Adds some punch that we were missing which is good. I know he can catch but he's not the same guy.

If the team wants to add to the RB room in the draft, Indiana's Roman Hemby (6' 207) is a very close comparison to Rico Dowdle (5'11, 215 ). MM certainly likes that body type as he drafted Dowdle and now has brought him in thru FA. Hemby has good ball security and had a 91.9% catch rate. I think that was 2nd highest among the top RBs. He's not a burner but I think MM prefers the ground n pound time of possession game which is why he was so critical of Kellen Moore. I'd love it if they got Hemby early on day 3.

No knock on Dowdel but I was thinking they’d draft a RB to replace Gainwell. Also wonder what Kaleb Johnson’s role will be in 2026.

Outside of his not so comforting injury history, its great value for the $

That sounds like the definition of mediocre to me. hahaha. But I wanted Johnson to get a chance to be our early down thumper. Can't believe he's still in the dog house. You'd think with a new head coach he'd get a clean slate. I'm hoping he gets a real chance. I always want guys we drafted to shine.

Who is saying he won't get a chance? But are you going to bank on it without a back up plan going into the season? That's what they've done at WR the past two years and we've seen how that worked out...

Signing a back like Dowdle speaks volumes. The Steelers must have zero confidence in Johnson.

Which, with a new coach in town, isn’t that surprising. However, Khan made the pick, and he’s still here. Was KJ a Tomlin pick? Is all of this more revealing to who had the most control personnel wise? Of course, who gives a bakers ****, now that he’s gone. That said, I loved Johnson prior to the draft and was hoping he could be our lead man in a couple years. Looks like that ship has sailed.
