Any GM who drafts a QB or S in the 1st round of this draft should be put in irons and pilloried at Point Park!

There will be Pro Bowl type OGs (and probably at least 2 OTs) available at 21. Pick a bunch of talented fat kids and stop with the project picks in the first round.

Steelers historically of late pick BPA of need.

FS (more questions than answers @ the position), as well as WR and LG are a need. I am very high on Dillon and don’t expect that he will be there at 21. In the mock above your post it adequately addressed G.

I see FS as the second highest need present day.

I don’t see T as a high of a need as some do. I think BJ will be ready come game one and be the starter.

IMO

After free agency ..,I continue to see NT and ILB as top two needs..
You can’t win football games if you can’t stop the run.

Of course we need a quarterback, but that ain’t happening in first two rounds.

I think since there won’t be a run on early selections of QB’s this draft there will be a run on OLine and WR’s. Leaving us disappointed once again. I run to the podium if Dillon is there and fully agree with you on FS. A top notch actual play making FS has been lacking for years and years. I look to get Tray Lance in the 3rd. OLine in 2nd or 3rd if one they like is there.

ILB in the first would be a little out of left field with Queen, Wilson, Holcomb, Harrison, and Bruener all on the roster.

As I see it, there are depth concerns at Safety (given Brisker's one year contract and nothing you want to depend on beyond that - I think Ramsey is driftwood) and ILB as, whilst there are bodies there, they can be improved upon. Outside of QB, Slot WR and LG are the two other spots that need to be filled.

Ignoring QB, if we say that the top 4 needs going into the draft this year are LG, ILB, S and Slot WR. Looking at the various classes, WR seems the strongest but only a slot WR is needed, so I would look to fill that need in day 2. You can take an OT and put them at LG, so more of them out there driving the supply and demand curve down for LG, again a day two consideration.

Therefore, ILB and Safety rise to the top of your board due to the lack of supply. ILB are more likely to be taken early in the draft and the run will begin at end of the first early second round. Safety is less likely to be in demand as teams do not tend to value that position very highly in the draft where many want to invest in QB, LT, CB, WR, DL and Edge.

The Safeties are going to be pushed down the board in round 1 and then looked for in the second and third rounds. Thieneman looks to be the best talent that intersects need and BPA and is likely to be on the board at 21. Thereafter, the way the board falls will dictate which order the positions will need to be selected.

Weidl will have the board set so they can strategically pick off their desired targets by moving up or down the board. Their pro day and 30 visits will draw this into a bit more focus, if their past practices are anything to go by.

Teams can find run stuffers later in the draft. First-round investments on defense should be focused on DL, EDGE, or CB unless there is a huge gap between say the top S and top DL available at 21.

If they traded up for Styles he's a lot more than just a run stuffer. This team needs stars, not more average players.

That'd be a STEEP price to move into the top-10 to draft a non-QB.

They've got 12 picks. The move up from 20 to 10 to select Bush cost them their 2nd and a 3rd the following year. Probably cost too much to move up to 5 or 6, but if Styles or Downs fall past Cincy, game on.

Day is a pretty solid run stuffer. I think Harmon will show continued growth.

I think there is few positions that couldn’t use upgrades. Thing is that WR room is pretty barren.

FS is almost not existent.

I think there is a difference between can use and huge need.

WR and FS are huge needs. All other positions you have someone you can make due with.

Not seeing why Day can’t be a solid NT when he started there and has solid run blocking skills.

ILBer isn’t void of bodies like WR and FS. If you think of it this way I think if they trade up that is what they should trade up for. Not so much top ten.

But 12-15 perhaps…

Agreed…although Rodriguez and Trotter are very good..,
We have a chance to draft a pure nose tackle at 21..
I wouldn’t mind if we go to Texas Tech Red Raiders one and two..
Hunter NT in the first.. and Rodriguez in second..

I like me some Rod.

As far as what one a two will be. I think the tea leaves show they stocked on D in comparison so perhaps the table gets turned in the draft…

I wouldn’t lose sleep with Rod in 2 for sure..

The Steelers have their #1 and #2 WRs making big money and locked up for years, don't see this as a huge need. They need to fill out the rest, but I wouldn't spend premium picks on that.

Who is their 3rd? Who is their 4th? Who is their 5th?

You are one WR injury away from the same problem on offense the team had last season 1 WR and very little else.

You had 3 leave on that underwhelming unit and have brought in 1.

on a position that carries 5 or 6 you have 2 a benched WR and a special teamer.

If that doesn’t scream need I don’t know what does.

Get some lower priced vets and a 3rd or 4th round guy. They need depth, not 6 starters. They need better starters at other positions.

Yeah those lower priced vets worked out so well last season as did that one 3rd /4th rounder.

Not saying they need 6 starters but they definitely are very weak at the position.

There is a reason the free agent WR contracts have ballooned it is a very important position that should be addressed with urgency when deficit.

They need better starters at every position minus cornerback and maybe OLber.

We can all hope for Roman Wilson to finally show his value as a third round pick, but the jury is still out on that. So far, the Steelers have brought in Jeff Caldwell, Kendrick Law (also KR), Denzel Boston, and Germie Bernard. So they aren't thinking premium pick WR, but they ARE thinking it needs to be addressed.

As for QB, of the top 30 pre draft, only Beck and Payton...not liking either of those two options for more than anything but clipboard holders. It's still early, and they've only brought in 13 guys, but it's a little bit of an underwhelming list
