WTF are we doing?

A smart and proactive FO would be adding more assets to the position whether the should be pastured geriatric QB returns or not

Anything less is like going into a season with a WR2 as your only receiving threat. What team could ever be that stupid?
Agreed, BUT there are only 3 roster spots available in all reality for a QB, Mason will in all likelihood be the backup for gameday early on. Unless you are willing to run with Howard as the 2 and a rookie as the three it might not make sense to draft a guy this year if Rodger’s is the guy.

They had a plan B though.

How do we know they're working on a plan B?
I can't find the article now, but they talked to four QB's at the combine, have brought in two for top 30 visits (for some reason the list is much tighter lipped this year and only 14 so far have been announced), and they are also high on Howard. They've talked about a lot of options other than Rodgers. It's just a much different feeling this year IMO. I'll keep looking for the article, but I know it talked about Howard and other Vet QB's. Because even if Rodgers retires or signs elsewhere, a VET QB is more than likely going to be signed. McCarthy doesn't seem to impressed with Rudolph...

Yes SIR, when MM was talking QBs he didn’t mention or talk much on Rudy. It was like he’s here if we need, but no loyalty if we find better.

I agree on finding better, a vet QB (possibly Rodgers.

They are very high on Howard and may go #2 to start year with him, eventually Rodgers get sat or hurt.

QB 3 could be a draft pick.

Possible deep vet back up stashed on PS, or interchanged with drafted QB.

Any body have any ideas as to bringing in McCarthy from the Vikings? He’s a big tuff kid that might be salvageable. Fat Mike is suppose to be a qb guru and our new OC coached with viks so has some familiarity with the kid. Seems like win win to bring him for a looksie. You must have a big strong arm, you must be able to move your feet and then reset them and make an accurate throw… this he does better than Howard que up Ohio state vs Michigan. We are going to have to take a few chances on guys Zack Wilson ex jet another strong arm kid worth taking a look at, if we are going to get a desent qb! We aren’t going drafting in the top 10 any time soon… so if fat Mike can’t reablitate one of these guys then what the hell did we sign him for? He’s proven the game has passed him by!! That can’t be why we brought him in, that we know! That's a fact Jack!! get couple of these guys send them all out to the north 40 with a few WRs don’t come back till you’ve got a passing game!!!

Rooney has turned this into Dancing with the stars ( washed up stars). Bring in known names, let them sing and dance. People watch. Popcorn is sold. Its the circus in Pittsburgh. Right around the corner to see the bearded lady.
Dancing with the QBs: Mitch, KFP, DangeRuss, Justin dontthrowitinthemiddleofthe Fields and the granddaddy of them all, getting ready for his second rodeo in this town, Ayahuasca A-Ron.

This! I believe they will sit on their third to whoever falls or use it to move up. After Mendoza who knows. So they go to camp with most likely Rogers, Howard, Rudolph and the draft pick. If Howard can handle QB2 they turf Rudolph.

It should be, we're handling our QB situation like we're the damn Browns.
If they were handling it like the Browns they would have used first round draft picks on dubious prospects multiple times (not just once), and then this year traded multiple high picks for Murray or Tagavailoa and given them a couple of hundred million guaranteed money.

I was more or less pointing to the constant revolving door at QB they have.

We act like it is just a snap of the fingers to go get a franchise guy. Maybe they could have been more aggressive and moved up for someone like Bo Nix in '24 or taken a shot at Dart last year. I'll concede that. But I never will understand this idea of having a bad year to get a guy. I agree with Rooney on that. It certainly doesn't guarantee championships, or the Bengals would have about 10 Super Bowls over the years.

I don't think anyone is wanting a bad year, but bringing in guys like Rodgers and skipping on a 1st round guy like Dart is the opposite of trying to find the next guy. They got Fields, he went 4-2 and then they pulled him and went with has been Wilson, barly gave Fields a chance. The Pickett pick sucked, if we didn't take him in round 1, no one else would've but at least they tried, I liked the Pickett move better than bringing in Rodgers or Wilson, at least with Pickett there was an outside chance he could be the next guy, Rodgers/Wilson at their age have zero chance at being the next guy and is just a wasted year trying to find the next guy.
If we sign Rodgers, unless he gets hurt, he's playing all season, so that's another year set back, another season of not seeing if Howard has anything.
Agreed, you don't just snap your fingers and get the next guy, but signing old QB's just to keep you around 9 or 10 wins is just making it more difficult.

Should have 4 QBs as the ps rules allow a protected QB and easy elevation on game day.

1) a vet: Rodgers, Cousins, Rudolph or whoever they want for that role
2) a true backup: if Rodgers comes back 🤮 then Rudy is likely this guy (unless a younger guy steals his lunch for the role)
3) developmental QB: Howard or draft pick whoever wins the gameday roster spot
4) developmental QB: protected on the ps (loser of Howard and draft pick battle)

A minimum of 4 QBs with 2 young guys is necessary imho…especially if a dinosaur (Rodgers/Cousins) is QB1. If Rudy is the vet guy then 2 young guys competing with him is plenty.

Rodgers would be just another delay in actually addressing a huge gaping hole on the roster.

Beta Rooney will likely let Rodgers do whatever he pleases though…so smart proactive moves matter not. The predictable will likely unfold.

I can't argue with most of that. The only thing I keep coming back to with Rodgers is by all accounts he is a well liked guy and he helps the younger QBs. That line of QBs in Green Bay, Favre to Rodgers to Love, they all have similar playing styles. I like some of that to influence Will Howard or whoever would be the next guy. I don't know if it is a setback if the guy learns and grows.

I could see that, but they didn't know any of that prior to Rodgers signing here last year and they still brought him in, we didn't even have a young QB on the roster when we started to pursue him. If they wanted him as a mentor then they'd have taken Dart to learn under him last year.

Were handling it the exact opposite of the Browns, the two extremes of failed QB “searches”

Those fools swing at every pitch
High inside heat-sure take a swing
Nasty breaking pitch outside-why not
Knuckler in the dirt- hell yeah
Eyes closed and sneezing- yup

They’ve never seen a pitch they didn’t like

The Steelers sit there scratching their balls with a bat on their shoulder hoping to get plunked…the only time we’ve got plunked in recent history (Ben) is when it took the Stains to throw that pitch our way
