He's certainly more qualified to run the Dept of Defense than Rachel Levine was running the Department of Health. My point to you is that rarely are any of these buffoons, from a Republican OR a Democrat appointed to these posts due to "qualifications" but rather appointments made as a reward for helping political figures gain power in some way shape or form.

At least he served his country, received a medal for valor, and understands the culture and demands of a US service member.

Now, Iran has gotten this help. Air force, army, navy, air defense systems obliterated, missile launchers depleted. What remains is an armed IRGC. Armed with guns, essentially.

Sure would be nice if the Iranian people had arms.

We have flown over 8000 sorties and Iran is still launching missiles and drones and seemingly just managed to shoot down one, maybe 2 now of our jets. Hard to say how depleted they really are. Do you just want to air drop a bunch of guns and tell the Iranians to go at it? I don't think that is very realistic. I think we would still have to back the Iranian people with air and possibly ground support. Trump said regime change was not a necessary goal so I'm not sure what the end game is

One sobering thought about the missing pilot/crewman and troops in harm's way, I saw a documentary a while back on Operation Eagle Claw in 1980 and the aftermath of the disaster and loss of life at Desert One in Iran after the aviation accident and aborted rescue mission. The families and operators were most traumatized and haunted forever by the way the mullahs publicly displayed and desecrated the corpses of the servicemen who lost their lives and did so on Iranian television. I would think the US Military has not forgotten this and this thought drives the urgency of the rescue or recovery efforts.

Black Hawk Down also comes to mind and its visceral images. Pray for all involved and their families.
