Who is your "no, just no" guy in the 1st round?

Just say no to Lemon

Ya ain’t even making lemonade with that Lemon

Dude brings a type of crazy reminiscent of if AB and GP had a lil receiver baby.

Had enough of SN pissing and moaning of a much more subdued brand of crazy in the past with its receivers. That dude couldn’t even get through the most basic of short interviews without the bat crap crazy spewing everywhere.

Hard pass…dude looks like a 6th rounder with those mental faculties.

Not a hard no but Freeling or Proctor would both have me a bit uneasy for different reasons.

Have a feeling DL should be the pick at this point unless something falls in their lap

I would say any WR. Deep class but nothing top end and worth a first.

I've been telling this to every Steeler draftnik on Twitter but they're locked in. They have their top 2 locked in for years for a lot of $$$ and people want to draft a "#1 WR".

Meanwhile, the entire left side of the OL is a question mark.

Mike McCarthy uses 11 personnel, so they need a third WR. It may not be in the first round, but they'll draft at least one on day 1 or 2. They've brought in 6 WRs for top-30 visits and the combine visits were also WR heavy. Offensive line hasn't been a focus so far, though you know Weidl won't ignore the position.

Here are his reception leaders in Dallas (bold are WR receptions). Dallas' WR3 was on par with the Steelers WR2 in recent years.

Ty Simpson. Would this guy even start at Bama this year? Maybe not. He couldn't beat out Jalen Milroe. He's undersized at 6'1 and 211. His arm is on the weak side. He has accuracy issues and he didn't look good under pressure.

Kalen Deboer has a very QB friendly offense. Let's compare his last 2 QBs

Both played 15 games
Simpson 65% 3567 yards 28 TD 5 INT
Penix 65% 4903 yards 36 TD 11 INT

74% of Simpson's throws were 5 yards or less. He needs a clean pocket because if he can't step into a throw with perfect mechanics, it's not getting there.

Those pimping him point out that he played through injury to explain away his second half of the season decline. That's just another negative to me. He's small, and prone to get banged up. If playing a bit hurt means he has a noodle arm then no thanks. He'll be just fine so long as he doesn't get hit.

Lots of draft gurus love him. Yeah, most of them are ex-backup QBs. They recognize their own.

Let's not spend a 1st rounder on another guy whose ceiling is to be the 15th best QB in the NFL if he's lucky.

Yep. Mendoza impressed me last year and I think he is a good QB. Maybe not great, but pretty good, sort of Joe Flacco, Matt Ryan, Philip Rivers level. A team can win with those QB's, win in the playoffs and win SB's, particularly if they can avoid blowing 28-3 leads.

The rest? No, pass. No interest.

So, he’s a potential top twenty QB all time? Those three guys are in the top twenty for yards, touchdowns and completion percentage amongst inactive or retied players. Yeah, good to know, I suppose he would’ve been useful.

The question is what type of body, skill set and route tree for said third receiver? Roman Wilson is still with us and the jury is out and a contract is looming.

All good, but people are saying to draft guys like Boston or Concepcion or Cooper at 1.21, or trade up for Lemon. That's preposterous for several reasons, namely they just paid DK and Pittman to be #1 and #2, so you're either burning a first round pick on a slot guy or you signed the wrong guys, or both. 2nd, those guys are 2nd rounders with the exception of Lemon. Meanwhile, there are gaping holes at LG, FS, and NT. LT isn't in great shape, either.

If this happens I think you may see Weidl look to get out. This is stuff the Bengals do.

In terms of stats like yardage, completion %, yes. The changes to the game over the past 20 years regarding crushing receivers who cross the middle of the field and protecting the QB have resulted in the vast majority of top 20 QB in yards, TD's and completion percentage (those stats go hand-in-hand) having competed within the past 10 years. Russell Wilson is 16th on the yardage list for example. Eli Manning is 11th. Also, Derek Carr is 22nd and Andy Dalton is 26th.

For career completion percentage, Tua Tagliavoa is 2nd, Jimmy Garrapolo is 4th, Kyler Murray is 5th. Mac Jones is 8th so I guess the recommendations for trading to get Jones have merit.

I trust you get the point. If not, I just don't care. Hey! Look at that!

The best and safest pick for this football team at 21 is the big guard from Penn State Loane. Plug and play guy and a huge need at this moment.
Grab the best WR available with the second round pick. Possibly even move up some in the second.
Absolutely stay clear of any QB in the first round.

What you said doesn’t contradict or provide a significant counter argument to my point or the general theme. Regarding the last segment, you missed a key phrase in my statement. I didn’t engage in any sort of statistical cherry pick. When considering active players, you omitted a significant name at the top of that list. If you’re going to be slick or wordy, “you better at least be good or better” than the person you’re attempting to contradict. On that note, I’ve had enough of this place, so, goodbye.

Drafting Concepcion in the first round is not preposterous. The Steelers need a slot receiver, and they need a kick/punt returner. This guy is an immediate upgrade on offense and special teams. Who do you want returning kickoffs? Kaleb Johnson?

I feel like Ty Simpson knows something we fo not. Hes one of only 16 prospects attending. I have no idea who would have a first round grade on him but I sure as hell hope its not the Steelers. But clearly someone has made certain intentions clear. If he is available when the Steelers pick its going to be somewhat really anxious moments for me. Id feel they will for sure have undone any of the good things this off season if they take him in the first.

They also need a left tackle

You don't draft KR and slot guys in the first round.
