This should have been the Steeler plan when Ben hurt his elbow in 2019.I want to lose this year, but there are some caveats to that.
If we are losing because our telent level is just horrendous, then we're in a lot of trouble as a team. If the O-line looks B-league, even after investing ALL the draft capital Omar and Co. have invested, that's a very, very bad sign for this franchise. If the recent long-term contracts to Herbig and Highsmith looks like bad investements, that's a bad sign moving forward. If the entire secondary is falling apart, that's not a good sign.
But if we are losing because Rogers can't stay healthy on the field and QB play if awful because they aren't "grasping McCarthy's system" or something like that.... bring that on. If the defense looks confused because we aren't playing Tomlin's simple system anymore, fine. If Watt and Heyward are old and slow but still getting tons of reps because they are supposedly the "leaders", good. If players are chirping about a bad locker room after losses or pointing fingers, I'm okay with that too. If stuff is getting leaked to the press and people are throwing each other under the bus, fine. That is ALL fixable (in fact, it can be quickly fixed).
And I do want normal game-to-game breaks and luck to go against us this year. I want Boswell to miss a few he should make. I want the defense to not generate a lot of turnovers (which is one of the most random stats in the NFL year-to-year by defenses). Stuff like that.... let it happen.
Again.... In not way do I see the stars aligning and us making a legit run at a top-4 team (AFC Championship game), so I want the EXACT opposite to happen. I want the stars to be as crooked as possible in McCarthy's first season. He can hanle it. He'll survive and keep his job. If we can roll with those punches just for this season, I see some big things ahead for us. In a divisiona and conference that just doesn't scare me all that much over the next 5 seasons.
Odds are the Steelers will either have a good season or a bad one. McCarthy only has 3 mediocre seasons in 18 years as an NFL head coach.I want to lose this year, but there are some caveats to that.

I’ll be in Pittsburgh that weekend for my Mother’s 100 bday celebration. Everyone who doesn’t live in Pittsburgh including some folks from Ireland will be in town, her actual birthday falls on the day of the game but we’re celebrating the night before. We’ll all get together on Sunday at my sister’s house to watch the game. The only thing that irks me is playing in Philly yet again. Our HC got to play them twice a year for awhile,so it gives a little more advantage than in the past. I want that W bad and of course the jagoff game since I'll be at that one.

My nephew from Delaware will be there, his bday happens to fall on the same day as his grandmother’s. He’s a die hard eagle fan, can’t think of a better gift than the Steelers beating the crap out of his team. Betting on that is a different story. I’m gonna sit his azz between my son and sister's son in law, either one can choke the green out of him if he gets out of line.
100 wow tell her we said happy birthday. Yinz might need to put that Eagle fan out on the porch for the duration. It just is the right thing to do.I’ll be in Pittsburgh that weekend for my Mother’s 100 bday celebration.
