Yes SIR, #1 in cost.

192 million for our boys to take the field of defensive play.

The next closest is 187 million, only 5 mil behind and guess who they are ?……. Yeppers Baltimore.

It’s a good view and lays out a little insight into the highest paid defense.

TJ = 42 million and the next player Alex is less than 1/2 that at 20 million………………..

Check it out.

What say you in the pay department.?

So the Steelers defence isn't the most overpaid defence in the NFL? Given the Baltimore defence is probably more than $5m worse than the Steelers defence!

Still have Porter and Benton to sign too. Holy crap, that’s a lot of money especially for a defense that ranked low in lot of categories last season.
Hopefully the new coaching staff can get lots more out of this group.

Queen washed himself out of a lot of plays last year. He led the league in missed tackles. We had Devin Bush who used to do the same thing. Tomlin allowed it. A players coach!

Right, but the issue now is with the underperforming vets relative to their contracts (Watt and Ramsey). Getting the young players signed to long-term deals should still be a priority.

Steelers defense was ranked 26th overall out of 32 teams.

The only meaningful stat (placed well) was take-aways and I think they were 2nd overall.

We will find out if it was previous coaching and scheme soon enough.

I anticipate a 10 place jump up, so somewhere between 18 & 14 ranking over all at end of season would be a significant improvement and near acceptable.

Pair that with a top 12 offense and……… you have a contender.!!!

Agree

I also know his no longer on the team, but last year we gave Slay a 10 million dollar retirement check…..FREE

It's a recipe for mediocrity. TJ's was maybe the worst contract in Steelers history.

Keep in mind that McCarthy inherited this situation.

It will take a couple seasons and a franchise QB salary to right the ship.

I wonder what the appropriate time frame is when the issues stop being Tomlin and begin to be big Mike's? Assuming there will be issues. Art deuce is still owner.

This can only be sustainable if we get a franchise, starting quarterback in a first round rookie deal (4 years, 5th year extension).

In 2-3 years, the old guard is going to rotate out (Watt/Heyward) and that will be filled with the offensive lineman we've been drafting and hopefully form the cornerstone of a decent group.

The whole system we created is just for mediocre free agent QB's, retreads where some other team is off-setting money, etc. That's all we can afford or we have to take the plunge with a young QB (one we drafted).

That's why I'm so hell bent on having a bad year and taking another shot at a 1st round QB. Pickett didn't work, but 2027 will be 5 years later. That's when you have to try again.

Just based on how Omar is handing the salary cap shows he knows he will need a young QB sooner rather than later. I just hope the plan isn't really "$20 million is max we have for a QB, let's see what's out there year-to-year".

That’s a dang good question. I hope most don’t think it will be all bells and roses from this point on……….

Adjustment periods for all personnel, coaches, FANs………….. will be needed.

That point of not being able to use Coach Tomlin for the blame factory will be interpreted in different tests by many.

Top 12 offense????? Even with the coaching changes and the improvements to the wide receiver room.....I think you have been smoking way too much of your own product.

I knew I was pushing that a little high, but the point is that offense will increase from last year’s ranking.

HOPE is a real thing.

Based on last year's stats, that would be around 30 more yards per game for total yards and 1.0 more PPG to be a top-12 scoring offense.

Very true drink. I think some will blame Tomlin for a long time-I don’t think that’s valid

We see new coaches take bad teams and make them middle of the road teams quickly quite a bit, but the Steelers are a middle of the road team that wants to be great. I think that’s harder, especially if we get the same level of QB play as last year and until a long term solution is found at QB
