Article was saying he has room for improvement definitely in the run stop area but the upside of his pass rush will have teams throwing cash around for upwards of $25 mill per year. So it is his upside that a team will be paying for. Not his product of today per se.

Benton is no dummy, like Joey these guys see the Steelers overspending on both sides of the ball, and they want theirs.
Upside is the new Steeler way.
Metcalf, Pittman, Herbig, Washington.
None of those guys have the #'s to warrant the contracts they got. Not even remotely close if you look around the league.

Money is definitely the driving force so yes, these guys see and know who is what on the pay scale.

Their agents know and are paid dynamical assassins for more money.

No wool can be pulled over their eyes, it all comes down to

1) Guaranteed money (sometimes this can be manipulated to get more team friendly things)
2) length of contract
3) true contract amount without incentives.
4) incentive values

The Kahn has his work cut out for him, he is just out of the honeymoon phase of GM and now the real job begins.

Don’t fear, when that dooms day is near, I’ll be doing a fake delivery to you ( will drop an harness package) only to actually have you hooked up for in-flight pick-up. That harness assembly is easy set up so you can do it solo while I loop around for proper alignment.

You’ll just have to pre-designate if harness is singular or double occupancy (no charge).

Benton is a mid-level starter. Carter really thinks Benton would get $25 million per year on the open market? That would make him the 7th highest paid IDL in the league. IMO, that is a crazy ask and it'd be an incredibly dumb move for any GM in the NFL to sign Benton to that type of deal.

Based on stats, Benton compares favorably to Travis Jones--who is probably a better overall player. Jones just got a contract extension with the Ravens worth $13.5 million per year.

Based off that is 15 million per a fair ask?

Add on the Steelers factor and that they want the highest paid defense and the contract should be in that 16-18 per se 3 year 50 million???
