JPJ Contract

Porter isn't worth 30 per year. 25 plus incentives. That's all I would offer.
Disagree.....

You are worth what the market is willing to pay the position. If Ward is getting 32 a year, Porter isn't going to accept 25 nor should he. I thought 28 to 29 would be the magic number but now I think he's gonna want that Shiney 30 mil mark. When are Steelers fans going to accept that a shut down corner (which he is) is worth .ore than 25 a year. Hes one of the top press man cover corners in the league and the stats say he is. The analytics say he is elite and I bet you a gazillion his agent will point this out and 3 gazillion a team in the NFL agrees with his agent if it isn't the Steelers

I know there's some debate as to where Porter is ranked among CBs...doesn't matter. He's very good and he's one of the top players on the team. I agree that some fans and even analysts are undervaluing him even as a top 10-12 corner thinking he'll take a deal worth $23-25 million. If Denzel Ward just became the highest paid CB, you can fully expect Witherspoon and Gonzalez to blow that away within the next few weeks or next offseason. While I like your numbers better, soon enough $30 million will be no higher than 5th. Soon enough, guys like Heyward and Ramsey, even Watt, will be off the payroll. Get your young talent signed long-term. That's how to build a winner.

I think part of the reason people have issues with Joey getting around 30 is they rank him as X best corner (top ten is debated a bunch here). So let's say for argument sake he's 10th best.....people think oh he's 10th best that ain't worth 30. They look at it that simplisticallly. You have a slew of measurements in regard to ranking a corner in the NFL. People first look at INTS and pass defenses. OK that's all well and good but in the NFL and in the age of analytics players, agents, GMs, coaches look at many more metrics to determine his value. Look at QB rating when he's targeted. Look at yards per catch or attempt He gives up. Look at TDS allowed. Look at catch rate allowed. I mean INTs are great but if we want a defense to get off the field we want our corner to force a QB into incompletions, into poor metrics. We want our corner to give up few YAC, few yards, and few TDs. Look at THOSE metrics and Joey collectively is 1st or 2nd in the league. The dude is a legit shut down corner. QBs don't target him as much as others and when they do they don't have a lot of success against him.

At this point with what Ward got it would be an absolute insult to offer him 25 million plus incentives and frankly I realize the top edge rushers get more than the top corners but if I saw a backup edge just got 25 million on my team and Khan offered me 25 plus incentives, I'd shut down the talks right there and say please offer me something serious or I'm walking.

Joey is elite right now and he's still improving which is scary..

I agree, though I don't know if the Steelers will see it that way. I saw quotes from McCarthy offering high praise for Samuel and Everett. I don't think that's a mistake.

If they pay DK 30, give up a 2nd while letting go of Pickens getting back a 3rd and sign Herbig to 24 and fail to sign Joey because he say wants like 29 then my opinion of Omar goes down big time

I would have signes Porter before Herbig.

Porter is more important to our team at this point than Herbig is.... where did negotiations start at for them to end up with the numbers that Herbig got? Then they play hardball with Porter. Mind boggling I say......

Yeah well we don't know what Joey's camp has been asking but the Ward signing really didn't help Khan. Joey believes in himself from what little I've seen from him and look at his Dad. His Dad was a brash confident mofo. You think his pops is saying he shouldn't get 30? Remember they released his Dad on the last year of his deal. Forget about letting him play out his final year for 4 mil. They released his *** and then he signed a 5 year 32 million dollar deal with the Dolphins. You think Dad has forgotten that?

That said he admitted never wanting to leave Pittsburgh professionally and still lives in Wexford I believe. I really don't think junior wants to leave. This is home. It truly would be messed up for a home grown kid, PSU kid, son of a Hall of Honor player and SB winner to not be resigned. I'd be shocked
