In regards to six core daily fundamentals focused on during training camp:

  • Ball security: Protecting the football and avoiding costly turnovers during high-tempo play.
  • Blocking: Sustained, assignment-accurate execution in the trenches.
  • Tackling and breaking tackles: Maximizing contact efficiency while managing body wear.
  • Big plays: Creating explosive opportunities on both sides of the ball.
  • Finish / Pursuit: Maintaining high-speed pursuit angles and completing every play through the whistle.
  • Mannerisms / Disguises: Refining pre-snap defensive looks and offensive presentation to fool opponents. [1, 2, 3, 4]

I had a coach who was all about pursuit. We practiced pursuit angles using ghost runners and stuff.. i thought it stupid at the time.

Well a little more in-depth than back to the lab or unleash hell or paint a barn with a specific type of brush. It is actually a guideline he is using … so not sure I would call it similar. Their different approaches more than an apple and orange outlook… 😉

Nice find and post slash, appreciate it.

There has been a lot of change going on and I for one am happy to date.

Of course we will see how this translates to the field of play.

There has to be a transition time from last year to this year as these players are being asked to do things completely different and out f realm from the old staff to new staff.

A refreshing breath of air and football.

Imagine if Tomlin was back for another year and articles in the media about how he's more energized than ever in year 20 and the players talking about how much they love Coach T.

I'm all for whatever cultural changes they're bringing.

That’s part of why this new staff is so well received by us fans.

I haven’t seen any or heard any reports from any player negativity (nor would I expect to).

This “change” was well needed and and I as one, very glad to wittness it.

What a refreshing watch of a Coach answering the media questions with direct RESPONSIVE answers, not cute little quips.

I don't have a clue about how the season will pan out, but I feel that our players will be better prepared and disciplined to play solid football for 60 minutes than they have for quite a long time.
 
Agree 100%. The direct answers are a nice change, but the bigger difference is how camp itself is being run. Actual structure, clear fundamentals every single day (the Steelers Six), faster tempo, and a coach who’s deliberately building habits instead of Coach Catchphrase just recycling the same lines and hoping the physicality covers everything.

Doesn’t guarantee wins, but it feels like a real head coach is running the show for the first time in a long while. Players should be better prepared and more disciplined come September just from the way practices are structured.

It was mind numbing for so long.
 
Not mentioned in the six but mentioned by multiple players so far is McCarthy's attention to detail. I think for the first time in a long time we're going to have a legit coaching staff.

100% There were times Mike T earned a terse response, or avoiding a question but as time progressed and the playoff losses piled up he doubled down and I thought it was arrogant at times. You get to a championship game the year before answer however you damn well please.

It's interesting though Drink because lots of people were crying and moaning when he was first hired. Now there is love for MM.......ultimately moaning or MM crushin is gonna come down to wins

I think most here were wanting a complete reset, thinking the Rooney would go younger type.

It wasn’t so much as not wanting MM, but more a total reset on a younger coach.

You’re right though, some just outright didn’t want MM as they compared a lot to Tomlin win / loss coaching effort.

Regardless though, most have warmed up to him and nothing wrong with a change of heart / mind / opinion.

MM is doing things 180 degree different than the previous coaching staff and what a breath of fresh air !!!

The players LOVED playing for Coach T though. Said they never wanted to play for anyone else. Do/will they LOVE playing for Coach McCarthy? That is the real question. Everything else is irrelevant...no?
