What tree is Vrabel off of? He never coached under Belechick. Would he be from Bill O'Brien? Or Belechick through O'Brien?
You certainly dont have to agree with me, but I think the whole discussion about trees is dumb. At the end of the day a coach has to be his own man. Sure you learn things, but maybe part of Vrabel's success as opposed to other guys associated with Belechick is because he hasn't tried to be like him.
 
And to me, this has one damn thing to do with Tomlin. I don’t like the coaching tree discussion regardless of who.

And it's always Tomlin with some of you guys. Which proves what I've thought for years. Those who disliked him were far more passionate about their dislike than those of us who tried to give him the benefit of the doubt were passionate about that. He's gone and I'm happy for change. Let him go.

They're not having any joint training camp practices with other teams this year for a reason.

I still expect a vanilla preseason that really doesn't show a lot and the vets don't play much. It serves no good purpose to put on film what you're doing to actually do when it counts.

Because nothing ever changed in season.


The season will go as the offensive and defensive lines go. They obviously think they can win this year or they wouldn't have brought back Rodgers. He still has the arm and the mind to play championship football,but if the OL doesn't play above the line ,it won't matter at all.

Anything that moves this team toward achieving a seventh Superbowl Championship is alright by me.

Lots of things have to go right. Injuries obviously one of them. If they can't make a run with this group, I hope they start thinking longer term and they try to build a championship team over 5 years and realize they need to build hard through the draft especially QB. We tried so many times to win post Bradshaw with great Ds and couldn't get it done until Ben came along. At some point I hope they accept that if they don't have a stud QB it's futile to.try to win the big one

Here's my short take on Mikey boy

He had a lot of very good qualities as a head coach and it brought him winning records and a bunch of playoff wins earlier in his career.

He had some flaws and it prevented him from really excelling in the playoffs in the back half of his career.

He was a good coach but a flawed coach. It was what it was. He has my respect but I'm glad he's gone

NO, and this year would have been extremely difficult.

I’m in the middle of a “RED FLAG FIRE ALERT” due to drought and unusual heat.

I’ve been pumping out of river using two different pump / locations.

Over 4000 ft of piping, some underground and some surface ran.

My upper pump feeds gardens / yards / trees / orchards, I use 1” Sprinkler heads at about 16 gpm each (6 usually)

My lower pump is field / pasture and I use a single 2” cannon that gets about 100-120 gpm.

Gasoline is expensive, one tank runs about two hours. (Yesterday each pump ran 8hrs )

Most of my garden is extremely heat stressed, although I did harvest a bunper red beet crop.

My sister processes them into “pickled beets” best ever !!! 98 jars (pint) worth.

I plant / grow / harvest, and she processes, then we split 50/50 on all garden stuff.

My sweet corn is only 3ft tall from heat stressed, but is tosseled out and ears have just started. (Hope it makes)

All this diversity is something a farmer goes through every season (I’m just a gardener who grew up farmboy)

All of this uncertainty s known as the “Farmer’s Grin”.

Stay safe out there Drink. I can’t remember what State you are in. Was it Wyoming? Some of the pictures/videos coming out of my province are truly heartbreaking. The Summerland fire right now is scary as ****. Spokane just went through it in Washington State. Hopefully you have some help,it sure helps you’ve got the river.

Which side ended up being right about his ability to win a playoff game the past 9 seasons while you took your highly enlightened position? If you took the position to "give him the benefit of the doubt" and he went 9 straight years without winning a playoff game, would that make you............WRONG? I wont hold my breath for that answer....

You say let it go while in the same statement take a swipe at the people who were RIGHT that he was doing an inadequate job and needed to go LONG before you finally admitted that. Then once again you look down your nose at people who were fed up with him and justified to be pissed at his futility

You've got a library of posts in this thread defending a guy who hasn’t won a playoff game in a decade, whose been out since February 🤪, one might even call those posts "passionate"

You were wrong, the other 90% of the board was right. You just can’t stand it, its hilarious

I was the one in Wyoming. No longer. We came to the blast furnace of AZ to take care of Mrs. Fan's Mom after her husband died. Sure miss it. Badly.

Right or wrong, since we are just fans, has nothing to do with it. That was proved with the fact that regardless of all the passion against him, he left when he wanted, and if he wanted to be here, he still would be.

However, your response proves my point. If you are honest, you will acknowledge that I never once tried to defend his record. In fact, I often made the argument that his record should be the focus as opposed to arguments like coaching trees. But in the passion against him, any argument against what the 90%, as you say, was saying at the time was considered support.

Even in this thread, my position is I think the coaching tree argument is really irrelevant as it relates to any coach. In my initial responses, if you look, I never brought up Tomlin. It was thrown out there by other posters in response to what I was saying, which again validates my point.
 
Coach Tomlin choosing to leave on his own is speculation.

The same can be said against his choosing to leave on his own.

Regardless of the “Tomlin” decision, it brought much needed change.

I for one am very excited for this change and to date……….

It has been very motivating in the excitement of our beloved STEELERS / season.

I actually feel involved as opposed to the past decade of just following along.

Yes. I was down to about five games a year that I would watch. It was less painful than watching the game, to just catch the youtube highlights, and listen to what you all said.

I might watch more this year.

I think at the very least it's a symptom of the disease. Whether or not you have a coaching tree who gives a sheeeet if you win right? And obviously there are coordinators who leave a championship team and suffer. There are also cases of one's doing very well. It's a mixed bag. Haslam is an NFL owner so obviously stupid decisions are made all the time but you can't say coordinators sought after by other franchises is meaningless. It's not like all owners and GMs are dunces and they are throwing a dart. Successful coordinators that are wanted elsewhere means something. It does reflect on the ability of a head coach to surround himself with talented coaches.

If we compare rhe coordinators early in tomlins career to the last 10 years there is a noticeable difference. I don't think you can argue Lebeau vs Austin or Whisenhunt or Arians vs Canada and the list goes on.

When all other franchises don't want your coordinators do you honestly really believe all the FOs are plain ole stupid and can't see the amazing talent Mike surrounded himself with?

Look at the Lions post Ben Johnson. Look at the Bears. You can't tell me he wasn't an outstanding coordinator.

I don't know what the issue was. Was Mike a control freak? Did Mike have difficulties in assessing coaching talent? Did the best coordinators find the Steelers unattractive? I really don't know what exactly the issue was but to me we underachieved with our talent the last ten plus years and it was the X and Os that did us in and to me that's all because we had coordinators that were below the talent we had and that's on Tomlin. So yeah the fact that his coaching tree sucked isn't directly the issue but it's Indicitive of the issue
