Makes you wonder if that helmet was properly fitted or not, having room for a 2ft snake seems ill-fitted….

EDIT: Had that been in my helmet, there would have been a “brown” snake all the way to the outhouse……………

I wonder if it would have bit the guy in the head if that would have killed him by the location of the venom .. where it entered…

Holy shiit. You gotta tell a little more about that. I'm guessing Western Diamondback, which is another level snake compared to the Timbers we have here in PA. And the Timbers make me scream like a little 9 year old girl.

Not much to tell. I was 8. On 2nd waterbtrail in the superstitions. I was with my uncle. I stepped over a rock and the snake was on the other side. It bit my calf.
It did not rattle 1st. The venom burned going into me. I remember that extremely well.
My uncle helped me get back to the truck and brought me to hospital
My leg was black. I couldn't walk for a month or so. Was really weak for monthes

damn Blitz that's crazy. When I was living in MI I never gave a snake a second thought, being in AL I get nervous checking the mail.

I vision ed BLTZ holding up the rattler and checking…………..

EDIT: Arizona has the most kinds of venomous snakes in the USA. My daughter lives in Tucson and her neighbor was an older guy who took in wild venomous snakes to rehab and release. Worked with Park / state / GFP in doing so he had two full bedrooms full of snakes (250-400). He kept those two rooms at about 55 deg F.
I don’t know how he got the permit to do so, it was a residential neighborhood. Super knowledgeable and from what I saw, he had every safety thing you could have including full anti-venom.


PS I hate snakes !!!! Think Raiders of the lost ark…………….

Just imagine if it bit you in the crotch......then you would have had a black........

Lucky your uncle was there to get you help.
1984, a month since the move to AZ, the wife and infant daughter take a trip to Lake Pleasant, ironic name.
Lay down the blanket for a picnic, not 10 minutes later an 8-10 foot Diamondback is within 10 yards.
Picnic ends, never been back.
 
We have a creek around the back of our property, and once saw small cottonmouth near the water. Very distinctive beige/brown/white camo look.

I have zero fear of snakes. We have a ton of little garter snakes, brown snakes, and this little thing they call a "black racer." Descriptive name but still a bit racist if you ask me. If I see one of the little guys edging into the paddock where the boys spend their time, I pick him up and move him back into the forest so he doesn't get stepped on.
