I'm pretty sure it was 11-1 not guilty. Why else would the defense throw a fit. If that one person was in favor of his client he would want that person to hold their ground and get a mis trial. The defense attorney should face charges though. First he stated "he" which narrows the possible people down to 3. It won't be hard to figure out who the holdout was.
The insanity defense is just stupid. If you can strangle your kids obviously you are not mentally right. Any one who can murder your kids / family etc etc is not mentally stable. If Lindsay was a guy I bet he would been found guilty immediately.

Yes. Before releasing the jury, the judge asks counsel if they wish to poll the jury, i.e., ask them if they have reached a verdict. They do so just to make sure the jury is in fact deadlocked. If all 12 state in open court they have reached a verdict, then we know it's a screw-up on the claim the jury is deadlocked.
I have a good friend who tried a civil case and was told the jury had rendered a verdict against his client. He asked to poll the jury and turns out it was 8-4 in his client's favor where California civil verdicts require at least 9 jurors voting one way. Attorneys met with judge, agreed the jury was simply screwed up and judge told them that was not a defense verdict.
The deliberated for another hour and came back 10-2 for the plaintiff. Juries do weird **** sometimes.

I saw an article / meme where Lindsay's go fund me reached over 1 million dollars. Supposedly it was for her parents / travel expenses to attend the trial. On they other side of the meme was a mother of 6 who saved her kids from a raging house fire. She had burns on 93% of her body and had to go back in 3x. Her go find me got 42k. The meme did leave out that a local church had a fund raiser to help rebuild the house, but it didn't say how much
