Gov. Fallin Authorizes Officials to Arm Full-Time Military Personnel at Certain Facilities

In response to the attack on Marines in Tennessee, Gov. Mary Fallin has authorized Oklahoma military officials to arm full-time personnel at facilities similar to the ones that were attacked on Thursday.

On Thursday, four Marines were killed at a Naval Reserve center when a gunman opened fire on the facility.

On Friday, Gov. Fallin issued an executive order that allows Maj. Gen. Robbie Asher to arm certain full-time personnel in military installations throughout Oklahoma.

“Four unarmed Marines were killed in what appears to be a domestic terrorist attack,” Gov. Fallin said. “It is painful enough when we lose members of our armed forces when they are sent in harm’s way, but it is unfathomable that they should be vulnerable for attack in our own communities. For that reason, I want to make sure that our National Guardsmen are authorized to arm themselves at our military facilities.”

The personnel may be armed with weapons that “adequately provide for security of the facilities and their occupants.”

Those facilities include military recruiting offices.

Rest in peace to all the sevicemen killed. A tragic and sad moment for the country and for the families that lost loved ones. They need to revisit security on domestic bases asap. I understand you probably don't want soldiers running around in full battle gear, but the bases need to be secure and better prepared for these types of attacks as they're clearly being targeted. The number of these home-grown acts of terror seems to be growing, be they islamic fundamentalists or the crazy mass-murderers shooting-up movie theaters, churches and schools. The level of violence is apalling. I don't see how the answer doesn't include stricter gun laws...it's just nuts to see so many people running around with firearms that shouldn't have them in the first place. I'm all for 2nd amendment rights, but they should make gun ownership requirements stricter and more transparent... not make it so easy to access weapons. It's not going to completely solve the problem, but would certainly help imo.

If only someone in that church, Sandy Hook or the movie theatre had weapons...maybe some lives could have been saved. People who have no concern for the law will find guns no matter what the laws are. Law abiding people who are not allowed to have guns in one place or another are sitting ducks.

Americans are armed to the teeth, like 5,000x that of other countries, no? How many more guns do you want people carrying around? Should every citizen be armed? Gun free zones such as schools, churches, some shopping malls, some cities, parks, museums etc.

No, everyone should not be armed. But creating gun free zones creates soft targets where criminals do not have to fear encountering an armed law abiding citizen. To a criminal, knowing that it is possible someone in the school, church, bank, museum or recruiting office is armed is a deterrent. We have an armed guard in our schools now, do you think a shooter is going to pick them to do his thing? Or will he pick a school where guns are banned?

In Illinois, there are just 68k permit holders, but a death occurs DAILY via gun in Chicago. Are those 68k people randomly shooting people? I'd wager not.

So unless a person is an ex-con, they should be allowed to have guns.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) -- Governors in at least a half-dozen states ordered National Guardsmen to be armed in the wake of an attack on two military facilities in Tennessee, and Florida Gov. Rick Scott went a step further Saturday by immediately relocated recruiters to armories.

In an executive order, the Republican governor said he wants Guard recruiters to move from six storefront locations into armories until state officials can evaluate and make security improvements, including possibly installing bullet-proof glass or enhanced surveillance equipment.

Scott ordered the Guardsmen to be armed, as did governors in Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, Oklahoma and Indiana

WASHINGTON — The White House provided no explanation Monday amid questions over why the president had not ordered flags across the nation to half-staff in the wake of a Chattanooga, Tenn., shooting that killed five servicemembers.

Spokesman Josh Earnest said President Barack Obama offered condolences last week and may speak to veterans at VFW conference Tuesday about the shooting, but he had no further comment.

Obama has issued presidential proclamations that lowered flags at federal facilities and military bases after many mass shootings, including attacks at the Washington Navy Yard, Fort Hood in Texas, and Sandy Hook elementary in Connecticut. The lack of a proclamation following the deaths of four Marines and sailor in a possible terrorist attack Thursday by a 24-year-old Muslim man rankled some and spark online outrage.

In my opinion, the above is the real problem and nobody is pointing to it. Saudi Arabia has funded these religious schools and they are a breeding ground for terrorism.
It isn't Islam, its a sect of Sunni Muslim that are causing all the problems. The 9'11 terrorists were Sunni Muslim, Al Quadi is Sunni Muslim, ISIS is Sunni Muslim.
We don't call it out because we want Saudi Arabia to be our friend and sell us oil. The ironic thing, the Iran deal is the biggest thing we have done against the Sunni Muslims,
because Iran is their biggest enemy.

Calling out Islam is merely a distraction from the real problem, when you can pinpoint the particular sect of Muslims causing all the problems.

British Authorities charged two Muslim relatives on Tuesday with terror-related offenses, including plotting an attack against U.S. military personnel in the UK and planning to go to the Middle East to join ISIS.

The news comes less than a week after a radicalized Muslim killed five service members at a military facility in Chattanooga, Tenn.

Junead Ahmed Khan, 24, is accused of trying to plan an attack sometime between May 10 and July 14, officials said. Khan and his uncle, 22-year-old Shazib Ahmed Khan, have also been charged with planning to travel to Syria to join ISIS, according to a statement from the Crown Prosecution Service.

Sky News reported that the men were arrested a week ago in a joint operation between Bedfordshire Police and the Metropolitan Police Counter Terrorist Command Unit and that armed police were involved in one of the arrests. Police say searches were carried out at two addresses in the Luton area as part of the operation which forms part of an ongoing investigation into Islamist-related terrorism.

"We have concluded that there is sufficient evidence and it is in the public interest to charge Junead Khan and Shazib Khan with the intention of committing acts of terrorism," said Deborah Walsh, of the Crown Prosecution Service. "It is alleged that Junead Khan and Shazib Khan had been planning on travelling to Syria to join the proscribed organization Islamic State in Levant.
