I actually persevered to read that piece of ****. It is entirely speculative as well as laughable. More government propaganda. Do you think maybe it's possible that the DOD has been ordered to decry the weather as a "global threat multiplier"? Where has the world become more "unstable, resource constrained, violent or disaster prone" as a result of the weather? Then we move on to the highly comedic suggestion that the U.S. "grab the mantle of global leadership" on this issue. Like we've grabbed the mantle of leadership of so many other things under His Weakness's "leadership"? Maybe he could though since we've evidently achieved the "earnest commitments" of "China, Mexico and Brazil."

NOAA refuses to comply with House science committee subpoena

In a study published in the journal Science in July, scientists indicated that average global temperatures have continued to rise in the 21st century, contradicting previous evidence that suggested a global warming hiatus. The analysis, based on temperature records from the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), has now come under congressional scrutiny.

In July, the US House of Representatives Science, Space and Technology committee head, Rep. Lamar Smith (R) of Texas, asked NOAA for both data and internal communications related to the study led by Thomas Karl.

While NOAA conceded publicly available data related to the study, it has refused to release internal communications, citing the “long-standing practice in the scientific community to protect the confidentiality of deliberative scientific discussions,” as reported by Nature.

In a statement released to Nature, Smith accused NOAA of falsifying temperature records, stating, “NOAA needs to come clean about why they altered the data to get the results they needed to advance this administration’s extreme climate change agenda.”

Arctic snow not darkening due to soot, dust

For millennia, Greenland's ice sheet reflected sunlight back into space, but satellite measurements in recent years suggest the bright surface is darkening, causing solar heat to be absorbed and surface melting to accelerate. Some studies suggest this "dirty ice" or "dark snow" is caused by fallout from fossil fuel pollution and forest fires.

But a new Dartmouth-led study shows that degrading satellite sensors, not soot or dust, are responsible for the apparent decline in reflectivity of inland ice across northern Greenland. The study's results suggest the ice sheet hasn't lost as much reflectivity as previously thought, and that black carbon and dust concentrations haven't increased significantly and are thus not responsible for darkening on the upper ice sheet.

The findings, which contradict anecdotal observations and earlier scientific studies, appear in the journal Geophysical Research Letters.

NASA finds mass gains of Antarctic Ice Sheet greater than losses

A new NASA study says that an increase in Antarctic snow accumulation that began 10,000 years ago is currently adding enough ice to the continent to outweigh the increased losses from its thinning glaciers.

The research challenges the conclusions of other studies, including the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change's (IPCC) 2013 report, which says that Antarctica is overall losing land ice.

The Associated Press recently announced that skeptic is not an appropriate word for “people who don’t accept mainstream science” (the AP’s words), because skeptic suggests that there is some scientific evidence on their side. The organization, whose style is broadly accepted within the media, dislikes the use of deniers, though, because it is too reminiscent of the phrase Holocaust deniers. It’s unclear whether Cruz also thinks that believing the Holocaust occurred is a religious belief.

Not everyone agrees with the AP — or with Cruz. “Those who are in denial of basic science, be it evolution or human-caused climate change, are in fact science deniers,” climatologist Michael Mann told ThinkProgress at the time.

“He couldn’t answer the most basic fact that for the last 18 years, the satellite data showed no significant warming whatsoever,” Cruz said.

The data he is referring to is very specific. Cruz is looking only at satellite data — not ground-level data or oceanographic data — and he does not say “18 years” just as a random number.

In 1998 the planet experienced a record-setting El Niño — and satellite data showed temperatures were very high. That does not mean that the global warming trend (weather and data will fluxtuate, but trends are important) is not occurring. In fact, 14 of the hottest 15 years on record have all occurred since 1998. Moreover, 90 percent of warming has been absorbed by the oceans.

Ninety- seven percent of published, peer-reviewed climate science papers concur that man-made climate change is occurring.

As “the child of two scientists,” as he pointed out in the interview, Cruz should know that cherry-picked data is not good science.

“It’s like a pro baseball player deciding he’s having a batting slump three weeks after a game when he hit three homers because he’s only considering those three weeks instead of the whole season,” Carl Mears, a physicist and senior scientist at Remote Sensing Systems, told the Washington Post, the last time this came up.

After Cruz went on The Tonight Show and told Seth Myers there is no such thing as global warming — if you look at the “satellite data,” of course — there have been several articles debunking Cruz’s statements. He does not appear to have read them.

He also seems to not have seen any of the data showing that the world is hot and getting hotter. 2015is on track to be the hottest year on record. 2016 will likely beat it.
