Steelers select Dri Archer in Round 3

My earliest memory of the Steelers was seeing them play against Chicago at Forbes Field back in November, 1956. They were the Chicago Cardinals back then, final score was 14-7. First touchdown was Fran Rogel rumbling in from 14 yards out. I was hooked from that point forward. Rogel wasn't much bigger than Archer, standing somewhere around 5-8, but he was built like a rock at 210. Archer can run endzone to endzone in the time it would've taken 'ol Rog to run a 40. Times have changed, that's for sure.

This thread sure went to **** in a hurry...

yeah, but he took his color-coded tabbed spreadsheets and snappy powerpoints and went "to another board"

What the **** are you talkin about Steelfuckeye? Do you have a problem with keeping politics out of Steeler football? If you do I could school you on that if you would like.

Ahhhh, reading comprehension IS a lost art isn't it? Let me walk you through this and then you tell me if you still believe your cursing, somewhat angry seeming diatribe was necessary.

1. In response to a post that pretty much harmlessly mentioned a current event (albeit with a twist that let us know the poster's political leanings), you asked that politics be kept out of the football discussions and be confined to the politics forum.
2. In response to your post, I stated "Uh-Oh, man you are about to get it!". A statement which meant that I anticipated that you were going to get some **** for taking the position you did. NOT, that I was giving you ****.

I apologize for the fact that you were unable to understand the context in which my statement was made (although I'd bet you were pretty much in the minority on that one).

So, Mr. Thin Skin, tell me, was your little outburst really necessary? SMH

My bad Steelbuckeye. I was a bit hasty and no my outburst was not necessary. This off-season is killin me.

Goddamn son.
You're a special kind of stupid

Mind your own ****** business. When I want your opinion I'll give it to you!

I've always loved the "mind your own business "argument on message boards.
The irony of that **** is priceless.
Yes. I'm posting to a public forum.
No. It's not your business.

Love that

I was hooked on them the second I saw their uniforms. My dad told me I started watching them after I saw them in 73'. I wasn't very old but I loved black and gold with the hypocycloids on the side. I can't even remember my first game. My father ordered me a Steelers robe out of the Sear catalog once for Christmas.

I watched them on a black and white TV for years. I remember almost beating that TV to a pile of rubble trying to get a clearly picture.

Did you ever read "Three Bricks Shy of a Load?" He has a chapter in there about "Fandom." He writes about some letters players or the organization received during the year ('73). One of my favorites is this kid writes the Steelers and says something like, "For Christmas I got a Steeler man, a Steeler shirt, a Steeler robe, a Steeler trash can"...all kinds of Steeler stuff. Kid ends the letter by asking if they can send him some Steeler things.

Nope, never seen it. Sounds like my Christmas during the 70s. I had Steeler one Steeler shirt and one robe. I had tons of logos I'd stick on things.

No harm no foul. The off-season has been long for all of us.

I was like 5 or 6 I watched my first nfl football game with my gpa.
I said gpa how come that team won't let the other one
Have the ball?
He said thems the cowboys son!
A little time passes the cowboys again take the ball away.
gpa who beats up the cowboys?
Been a fan ever since.
True story.

this ******* thread isnt dead yet? why is anyone still replying? it's interfering with other, more important threads.
SF81 should lock this ****** up. he's more of a mod than that ***** *** Collie.

Dri Archer's versatility helps Steelers offense as well as defense
By Neal Coolong  @NealCoolong on Jul 2 2014, 10:47a 19

Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports
Steelers rookie linebacker Ryan Shazier pointed out the value of practicing against fellow rookie Dri Archer.

The value of Steelers' third round pick Dri Archer extends beyond simple xs and os on a chalkboard. While the challenge the Steelers have in 2014 is finding the best way to get Archer the ball in advantageous situations, the options they have to do just that are plentiful.

They even extend to the defensive side of the ball. Not that Archer will line up at cornerback or safety, but he's going to help those players prepare for game day.

"It really helps a lot," Shazier told August Fagerstrom of the Akron Beacon Journal. "He really does everything. He can catch, he can run, he even goes through the tackles sometimes. Having him be able to do all that in practice really helps us break down angles, fundamentals and trust ourselves and what we have to do.

"When you’re chasing him and really understanding the way he cuts, you’re not going to see anybody faster than him, so it helps you be able to read and tackle any other guy."

Have no fear, Archer wasn't brought in to be a practice player only. Speed simply adds value to any player in doing anything. Even if his rookie season production is something closer to three carries, four targets and two punt returns, that's nine opportunities for Archer to find a crease and get moving in a straight line.

As Shazier wisely points out, not everyone has that kind of speed, and odds are good opposing defenses and special teams don't practice against it. One burst through a hole could be all Archer needs.

No one's catching him in a footrace, and that's exactly the kind of scenario he could create if he breaks free.

Its always been kewl to hear from the other side of the ball, a perspective as to how another player affects them. Archer has been discussed extensively, but is nice to hear the defense is affected by him.
