Tomlin sucks thread 11/6/16

Sorry, I don't think Tomlin is amazing or the best. He has tons of faults but he's a good coach. He spends time with every position group routinely. He knows what he's doing. You don't win 97 games and a Super Bowl and not know what you're doing.

what good is spending time with every group if the message is wrong? what what is his message? I guess mediocre is ok.

You can't say in the same post that Tomlin has "tons of faults" and then go on to say "but he's a good coach".

Those are mutually exclusive.

I'm just wondering where the life long Tomlin apologists are holding up at? Have heard that garbage for a decade now about how awesome he is and when it becomes glaringly obvious that he couldn't coach his way out of a paper bag they all disappear.

I honestly hope we lose out the rest of the season and the Rooney's are forced to send Shades packing with a friendly "bye Felicia".

That's the only way the remainder of Ben's career isn't squandered by a horrible coach.

Bill Cowher had tons of faults. Every person does. There's no coach in the NFL that doesn't have faults. Did you watch the Seahawks game last night? Pete Carroll went for two instead of taking an 8 point lead. Didn't get it and the Pats could've tied the game with a TD.

That to me was playing to win, if you get the 2 there it is now a 2 score game and you are almost guaranteed a win. I will take playing to win instead of playing not to lose any day. I cannot fault Carroll for that decision.

There isn't one unit on this team really that is better than what was here when Tomlin took over.
To be fair, Tomlin did tell at Boz for kicking it out if bounds 😀

The Carroll decision was just odd. I agree with that.

But let's be clear about one thing: the Carroll-coached team beat the Patsies**** at their own yard, with the entire Patsies**** offense healthy and playing. Does anybody - and I mean any living being, including Tomlin's wife and kids - believe that he could ever coach his team to a win in NE where all the Patsies**** offense was healthy and playing??

Did Tom Donahoe forget how to evaluate players? He wasn't exactly stellar before he was let go. The offense is way better with much better talent all around.

It's apparent that they can't evaluate defensive talent very well. Though they have hit on Tuitt, Heyward, and Shazier. Artie looks like he could turn into a good player. They need to go out and sign a pass rusher in the offseason.

Donahoe was gone because of a power struggle with Cowher...his drafts were never as bad as what we have had under Tomlin/Colbert. We can agree to disagree on the offense, I think outside of Brown and maybe Ben maturing as a QB that the offense is no better now then it was when he took over. Defensively, this current team is a mess. It has no identity, no consistency, and really the wrong players for the type of defense we run. We don't have enough players to transition over to a 4-3 and so we are stuck in-between.

Not even the WR's are better, give me Ward over Brown every day, Brown is super athletic, but Ward hated to lose and laid it on the line every game, not to mention we had Holmes too.

Only "bad" draft was 96. The 97 draft was average, maybe a bit above average if you look at what Vrabel did in New England. 98 and 99 produced several pro-bowl players and quite a few productive players. Want to see a bad draft, look at 2008.

So he drafted a LB who didn't fit our system but it was good because he went onto help NE win super bowls and kick our ***?

I think if we're identifying BB as a top 5 QB and a potential HOF'er, then the microscope on Tomlin's legacy needs to be pointed at division titles. Start there. 4! That's unacceptable when you look at the other top 5 guys in the league during BB's/Tomlin's tenure. Manning 12 division titles (Broncos Indy), Brady 13 titles, Rogers 4 in a row 2011-2014, Cam now coming into his own, 3 in a row. The Steelers have 4 scattered through 9 years and in this division, that's pathetic (IF we're putting BB in top 4-5 category). He's not better than Joe? Dalton? We're basically the Saints. Great QB.. lousy D's and some success scattered around that. When you have the guy at the helm, you should be winning this division MOST of the time. It SHOULD make coaching a little easier, but for some reason this dude is tripping along because he fails at preparation. People on here still reference BC, and w/right. Dude was able to get to 7 division titles w/no one at QB. What's Tomlin's excuse?

Vrabel was drafted into a team with a pretty stout LB corp in place. You already had Lloyd, Gildon, Holmes, and Kirkland there. I don't think he could not have fit our system as much as he came into a great system and was not going to unseat many of the veterans.

He's a 4-3 LB man. He was a tweener that they tried to make a 3-4 OLB and it didn't work out.

All coaches come with an expiration date. its completely logical that Tomlins time here has run its course... he gave us two super bowl trips and oversaw the transition from old school philosophy to what should work in the modern goodelled up NFL. his time was successful here, but he is probably done

It was Porter that beat out Vrabel and Emmons, can't argue that one though, even what Vrabel did in NE, I think everyone would take Porter over him.

Tomlin and Colbert wish they had 5 good picks in 4 years. Our drafts have been abysmal under Tomlin/Colbert. I think it is much more on player development as I find it hard to believe you miss on that many first and second round picks.
