Steelers coach Mike Tomlin expects third-year WR Sammie Coates to take "another leap"

Coates sucks. He proved it last year.

The one where you don't bother to cover Coates, because he caught 1 ******* pass the entire 2nd half of the season.

Exactly, it's not like he was double teamed on any of his multiple drops this season, remember the @Baltimore game, dropped an easy TD right in his hands that puts us within 7 with like 6 mins left.

Man you guys are so negative towards the kid. So, re-imagine my post as if I were referring to the pre-injury Coates who had 50 yard catches in every game so you can't just leave him alone. So.. imagine THAT Coates, the Bryant we know on the other side, AB, Bell, and Rogers on the field at the same time. That's a very difficult group to defend. And that's not even accounting for Ladarius Green who could be healthy, James over the middle. I'm trying to think "best case scenario" here with all the talent coming together

Yup! But, his fiancée is a Smoke Show. So there is that.

My god, that's too much to ask for.

when he plays with heart and maybe actually makes a contested reception...and not alligator arm passes when he has a step on his coverage....maybe he will stop catching ****......

Exactly! That's why he had no trouble in practice catching.

exactly, he didn't give himself a chance to blame hurt fingers....no fight, no reaching out for the ball....no balls.....

No worry's though, Ayers will take his spot behind AB and Bryant while Rogers fills the slot

All of this is true but you did forget one MORE thing,.......HE closed his eyes at the precise time he should catch......WTF ????

This. I've seen pictures of him in the lockerroom where his hands weren't even taped or anything and the guy was holding his phone with both his hands. I saved one from the Xmas game against the rats where Tomlin is shaking AB's hand, and sitting right beside them is Coates with no noticeable issues with his fingers. If I could post it through my phone, I would. However, I'm sure the Steelers website still has it. Coates had bigger issues than his fingers.

a lot of people agreeing an not one single karma hit...

The second and third receivers on this team should be ripping it up every game. The defenses have to bring safeties up while the run down linebackers have to play all three downs because of our run game and the secondary has to double team brown at the same time. You can't ask for a better scenario if youre the slot or number two receiver. Rodgers, Coats, and Hamilton were seeing single zone no safety over the top coverage and still managed to look very ******. I'd be surprised if we don't see a receiver drafted high.

Maybe Tomlin will cut his eyelids off to remedy the situation.

Am I hard as hell on Coates? You bet. But I invite him whole-heartedly to come into preseason and prove me wrong.

I've been equally hard on Bell and Pouncey. Both of them put together very solid seasons after some really terrible injury riddled campaigns. So I suppose it's possible for Coates to come back and impress. But this really smacks of intimidation rather than a talent thing. It reminds me of Tommy Maddox and his ability to make quick decisions and solid reads before his terrible injury and his awful indecisiveness and inaccuracy afterward.

I think Maddox was just gun-shy after his back injury. Can't blame the guy. He was badly badly hurt and that messes with your head. Maybe Coates is constantly hearing footsteps and he's worried about a big hit and his livelihood. The problem is, he's f'n up his livelihood by "living in his fears".

I am not a psychologist. I just make beer.
