Trump appoints talk show host to head of science @ USDA.......no not a joke.

So I was checking out this Clovis guy. He had a PHD in public policy so it isn't like his only credentials are being a comedy writer like a certain senator from Minnesota...

You mean this guy?

Obama's Deputy National Security Adviser was a man named Ben Rhodes, whose college degree was in fiction writing. I kid you not.

Like he repealed Obamacare? Oddly enough I still have to write a bigass check at the end of this month for our insurance that covers nothing.

I'll believe it when I see it.

yeah, I thought all of this was first 100 days stuff.

Yeah, the guy who lost his election until days later when Dems happened to "find" the exact number of absentee votes that he needed to win in the trunk of a car.

I assume you mean "the guy who valiantly fought off the GOP theft of the election"?

Yep, I get that it's not all under his control but wasn't the line that he was supposed to be some kind of great deal maker? So far it seems like he is pretty much everyone's *****. Caving and compromising left and right.

Just sayin...

The Big Club is working against him. The Big Club wants a single payer system. The better to control the plebs.

Since I have a science degree, I'd find it insulting for the head of science, not to have one. I don't understand why this position isn't filled by a head of academia? Personally it would be better than putting corporate shills in those positions.

Because USDA is not about science? It is political, like EPA and education are

Yep pretty much.

At least with a background in public policy he will understand the effects that the regulations will have on people and the economy.

I'm a mathematician. So is my boss. His boss is not, neither are the 3 or 4 bosses above him, nor are any of the owners, to my knowledge. As Con says below, these are political positions.

Furthermore, assuming all of these government organizations have been run by "appropriate" people, they have done such a bang up job over the last several years, so it seems time for an outsider.

That is a good point stating you don't need to have the degree to oversee in the corporate world, but I personally prefer some assemblance of expertise to represent science in its fullest capacity.

"Science" today means something different than when I did physics/maths/stats in college.
