Again... any other year and Mason is a first rounder... he has an NFL arm... he does need to learn read progressions, much like Landry when he got here, and he is going to have to put more on mid passes... he has some technical things to work on, but physically he is really solid as a prospective franchise qb... he just happened to come out in a draft where 5 qbs all came out who had at least one aspect better than him... but then again each also had a negative much greater than his own too... and no, I don't get how mayfield is top overall but he is a third round guy lol

So Ben can't throw deep well, and he can't throw wr's open but he's going to be at top 10 QB of all time and a HOFer, yet he can't do those things????
AB makes great sideline catch after sideline catch where only he can get it, yet Ben can't throw wr's open? He throws wr's open quite well

Three safeties, a nose tackle, a inside linebacker, a special teams safety, a WR, a slash type player. A tackle to compete for the swing tackle.
I would say 9 new bodies is pretty right now.
Say Ben goes down hurt, I bet you relish that extra QB in the right now. Unless you think Landry will take you to the promise land. In a team with the talent level that is close to going there.
Majority of what they have done minus one player is primarily for the right now.
I don't think one draft pick alters that way of thinking.
If Ben goes down we aren't going to the promise land, we may not make it if he stays healthy with this defense, we needed early D help

Problem is, this draft did not have a ton of guys who could help immediately. There were probably 4 ILBs that could play immediately and all were gone before the steelers picked. There were only 2 safeties that could be expected top start immediately and both were gone.
I do believe that Edmunds, Washington, and Marcus Allen will all contribute this year.
I agree with the steelers when they say they have Rudolph rated just as high as the other QBs. He was a steal in Rd 3 and they may have kept him from the Bengals. It was the perfect spot to draft him because i don't see another player in that area that would have been a better pick.
I think the pick of Okarafor in RD 3 also backs up the fact that the steelers saw no immediate help in that round. Okarafor is a bit of a project, taken on upside.
The steelers did not have a RD 4 pick and still they took a QB and a project OT. To me that shouts pretty loudly that the steelers did not like the talent at any of the other positions of need.
You are at best getting help now from the first two picks. One is a guy who will play situationally now on defense. Tge other became nessesary on offense with the trade of Bryant. Sorry but there was not one guy available in the first two rounds where they drafted that was playing a base position on defense or offense. They brought in two starters on defense. These are guys with a great deal of experience but some tread left on the tires. Bostic was two picks after Bell. Every starting position is accounted for. Tomlin will say otherwise, but minus injury I can name every starter right now. Draft was not changing that.

In a shallow tackle class, Chukwuma Okorafor is still somehow getting overlooked. He has first round traits that should entice teams. In this mock draft he falls into the second round behind Connor Williams, Orlando Brown, and Mike McGlinchey. Okorafor may end up as the best of the bunch.

Wait, now mock drafts don't mean **** because Okorafor went in the 3rd?? Wow, somebody please explain this to me. He should be labeled a GREAT pick because he was mocked 34 and the Steelers got him at 92!!
Maybe I'm just still salty watching our D get shredded by the freaking Jaguars. I didn't like trading up for a guy that really won't contribute for another 3-5 years. Oh well

You are putting a lot on Ben to stay healthy all year. And then are assuming the rookie can't beat out Landry and Dobbs.
Steelers liked Prescott and lost out on him. When a talent at the most important position falls, you better look. Especially when your depth is a stop gap and another QB that might not even be that.
This kid has a chip on his shoulder for falling in the draft. So I wouldn't discount his rise up to number 2.
And Ben isn't locked in beyond this year.The minute you start talking about retirement, it isn't unrealistic to think it could come sooner than later.
If he lasts two years, Rudolph slides into the position in year three, An attractive option for a team that desires no drop off.
This comes to pass you will be happy as **** that there was a QB there that didn't scare the **** out of you every time he stepped onto the field.
Because really both the Steelers backups were highly suspect. Might have been the weakest depth position on the team.

FULLY agree, we got a 1st round pick in the third. CAN'T beat that. Looking forward to training camp to see how he progresses. Rudolf will need time adjusting to the speed of the NFL but theoretical he will get a year or two for that adjustment. I'm on the bandwagon of this being a very good draft. REMEMBER we picked at #28 which is near the bottom of the round. The talent available, we did very well.

If he's a first round talent, why didn't anyone else jump on him before us? Maybe he will be really good, maybe not, hell Landry Jones is #3 all time in passing yards in D1 history.
I guarantee Ben has told the FO his plans, and if he plans to call it quits after this season then I'm all in in this pick. If he plans on playing another 3 seasons then I think it's a wasted pick and shouldve looked at someone that could help us asap.

I’ve always been a big fan of Ben and think he’s had one hell of a career and will no doubt be a first ballot HOF but we had to take Rudolph in the 3rd. There’s a good chance he may be the best out of the 5 QB’s that were drafted ahead of him.
You do have to admit that Ben can be somewhat not clear with his intentions. Some would call it being fickle. He’s gone from “I’m going to take it year by year” to “I may want to play past this contract that ends in 2019”. So you have to protect the team and have a legitimate player waiting in the wings so hence Rudolph. If Ben plays another 2, 3,4 years at a high level, that’s fantastic since Rudolph won’t be under any pressure and can learn and we’re set for life after Ben.

Not so sure of that! Whether Haley remained I still think Ben would go out on his terms. I think he’s still looking at this year to year and a lot if it is his health. It depends on how he feels after each season and at 36 the team must protect themselves and have the heir apparent waiting and groomed.
I personally think Ben will play these last two seasons win or lose and then retire after the 2019 season.

5 QBs went in round 1. You can go team by team and see who has QBs and who may potentially need a QB. I think the *'s and the Bungles were the only legitimate teams after the first round that could have drafted Rudolph that high in the draft.
It wasnt about going out on his terms he wanted Haley fired then. The retirement talk was his way of saying can his *** now or i will retire
I don't understand everyone's confidence that Ben can play at the high level for another 3 years. He certainly didn't look elite until week 8 or 9 this season. He took a massive beating early on in his career. I expect him to age more like Steve McNair (who fell off a cliff) than Brady or Brees (who are masters at the old chuck and duck to avoid vicious hits).
