Right here is a prime example:

I overreacted and apologized to Zack.

You overreacted and continue to attempt to escalate.

If that's what I did, then I apologize. It wasn't my intention to escalate anything and shouldn't have continued to post about it.

No worries, and I appreciate it. We don't always agree on the how or why, but we can both agree on who is our favorite team.

Why this pick? Shazier and Tuitt haven't exactly contributed mightily. I can't help but wonder if Archer was three inches taller and from a bigger program if people wouldn't be a little more patient.

Shazier has made some plays, Tuitt also. If Archer was selected in the 5th or 6th round while we used our 3rd round pick on a DB then no, I wouldn't have a problem. We had needs to be filled with that 3rd pick and an undersized, part time, gimmick player was NOT one of those needs. How much time do you need to work on returning kickoffs? Most rooks have this one figured out in pre season. Could have found a similar type player much later in the draft. Wasted pick.

Maybe they told Archer to drop that pass. Or just run for 3 yards. They might be sandbagging to keep his true skills a secret until later in the season.

I posted on Page 162 of the Dri Archer page and I didn't even get a lousy T-shirt.

Actually it would be better to have a T-Shirt made that says:

I posted on Page 162 of the Dri Archer thread and all I got was this lousy T-Shirt

I've got several of those T-shirts due, just not all "Page 162"

Salute the nation

Archers rushed up the middle for a key first down last night. :) I'm not sure what the hell the coaches are doing with this kid, but at least they are still trying to figure out what to do with him. I was shocked to see them have him pound it up the gut, but I suppose that's one way to keep the defense honest when he's in the game.

Joe

I did see they used him as a dump off outlet to Ben but the pass was behind him. The funny part is on that play they had two guys on Archer so even if he did catch it he wasn't going very far. For a guy who "sucks" the defenses sure take note when he is on the field.

Totally, defenses usually run screaming away from screen receivers.

Archer's problem might be that they gave him #13. How unlucky can you get? I think its the curse of #13 that's holding him back. Yeah, that's the ticket.

Hey dog, did you see the size of them chickens?

They're not giving up on him, but you sure wonder what the **** he's doing out there when he's on the field. How do you not have Bryant, Moore, Wheaton & Brown out there when you need a big play from a WR?

The issue hasn't changed. Who do you take off the field to play him? Bell, Blount, Wheaton, Brown, Miller, and now Bryant. Archer isn't a WR. He doesn't run great routes because he wasn't trained as a WR. He was a RB in college. But do you want to take away carries from Bell or Blount to give to a 5'7 173 lbs. RB? He doesn't have a position on the team. Hell I feel sorry for the guy. He's a fast guy. But his skill set doesn't fit the NFL. He's a RB that can't physically handle the RB position. Even his college coach said it was a mistake to play him at WR. They need to work with him on PR and KR. That is his only way to legitimately get on the field.

Actually agree with you. We have too many weapons on offense. We shouldn't be taking Moore, Bryant or Wheaton off the field to split Archer wide at WR. If he's there to spell Bell or Blount out of the backfield, I'm just not sold on that 9 games in. If he's going to find a niche on this team it best be as a return man because our special teams has been short bus special this year. If they are going to run set plays just for him, they better be big plays or this thread is going to continue to be discussed. His best asset may be as a decoy, and for the guys arguing against Archer being a 3rd round pick, you don't waste a 3rd round pick on a gimmick player when you had clear other needs.

Totally agree.

Uh, gee, that's kind of a good problem to have, isn't it? I mean, ya can't have it both ways, we were saying how this team has holes all over the damn place, no room for a luxury pick like that, gotta get starters for this year, God knows we'll be lucky to do anything, and now the argument is we have so much talent we can't get him on the field because we're pulling someone better off? Well, ****, that's pretty awesome then, nice problem to have.

There are more positions on a team than RB and WR.

Yep, there are, but it seems like, and this is just a guess, if you have a good amount of talent there, you can do things like score a shitload of points. It also seems like that makes it easier to win the game than when you're praying for three yards and a cloud of dust to hold on to your 2 point lead with 5 mins left.

We had some injuries on defense again last night, and the backups still held their own, so maybe, just maybe, if our wonder boy allen can get his head out of his ***, we aren't quite as ****** at cornerback as we thought we were. With Polamalu AND Shamarko injured, our safety position still held up well, and we also lost our newest toy at ILB again.

I'd say with that level of depth, and the fact we still stomped this **** out of the Ravens, things aren't too bleak with the talent level.

Isn't it still smarter to spend the pick on a guy who can help, rather than a scatback project with big issues? Martavis made sense because he has an NFL profile and adds a dimension to our offense. What does Dri add? What plays will he run that Bell or Brown shouldn't?

What you're saying is that it's OK to waste draft picks because we're doing just fine. I'd direct you to our o-line, pass rush, CB, and safety question marks and disagree. Things are looking up at the moment because guys like Harrison and Antwan Blake had solid-to-good nights, but does that really sew up our depth issue of the last half-decade? Is Harrison our long-term answer off the edge? Are we going to lock up Worilds long-term for top pass-rusher dollars? Does Jarvis look ready to be better than "m'eh"? Would you be cool starting Blake and Cortez next year? Are you ready to turn over Troy's spot to someone like Mitchell or Shamarko? Are you confident that Gilbert and Foster will suddenly become capable starting linemen? Or Adams? What do we do when Heath goes? Are all of these problems solved thanks to last night's win?

Who were the sure starters at those positions when Archer was taken? Patience!

The only one I saw that was a significant upgrade we took in the fourth. the guys I saw and wanted us to take were gone.

Harrison is our answer till our 1st round draft pick is healthy. Then we'll see if our first round draft pick can play. I do NOT think we should have invested that pick on yet ANOTHER edge rusher, no.

Worilds is still a question mark. I don't claim to know what the next step is there, maybe Moats on that side? But again, I don't think we spend that pick on an edge rusher.

Blake seems to be doing just fine, I fail to see why when a guy has a good name, we go back to the "well, he might still suck" mantra. How about we let the ******* guy on the field to SEE if he ends up sucking, instead of putting someone back out there who we already have seen suck a whole bunch.

Next year we'll be starting Cortez, like it or not, since we just threw a truckload of cash at him, so I hope he's as good as they think he is. And why the hell wouldn't I be ok with blake next to him given how he's been playing?

I would have put Adams out there last night, I have no idea why Gilbert was put out there again, he did ok, but Adams actually looked really good for 6 quarters of football, I would have waited to see if he could do it for 4 more. That's just me.

We have no replacement for Heath, as of now, but every year we seem to take a tight end in the draft, so eventually we'll get one.

Foster isn't great, but he's nowhere near bad enough to start looking for his replacement. How many sacks has he given up this year?

Mitchell seems to be playing just fine, and Shamarko WAS indeed drafted to replace Troy at some point, are you suggesting we should have taken YET ANOTHER safety at that spot? THAT to me would seem idiotic, after going to free agency for one, and supposedly having another waiting in the wings.

Joe

By the way, we're right back to our circular argument where people go-

"Well, I'm not saying for sure who we SHOULD have taken, but LOOK at all these positions we still aren't great at, and look at who we have"

Which is, again, like saying-

"I don't know what I DO want for dinner, but I know I do NOT want fish"

If your desire is to be the best damn team in the NFL on paper, that's great, I think three weeks ago that was either the Cowboys or the Chargers, pundints and the like going on and on about those teams. After the first game it was Broncos or Seahags, of course. The paper champs don't concern me, this isn't fantasy football, this team is putting up points and generating turnovers without several key players right now. We won a superbowl with Chris Hope playing at safety, it's about getting the guys on the field to be successful WHEN they need to be.
