The Coronavirus thread

I've never seen a virus that can last in the sun for very long. They don't last long indoors on surfaces either. They are generally transmitted through the air when someone coughs, talks or yawns. Also the idea that the protesters didn't spread the disease is laughable. They are chanting, screaming and standing on top of each other. The virus spreads exactly that way. Those cotton masks are useless in that environment. It's like trying to stop a gnat with a chain linked fence. Especially since the people don't even wear them correctly. Maybe they haven't been tested yet? Maybe they are asymptomatic?

It's only been a few weeks and I doubt they're all that concerned about testing. Just a hunch.

I think you need Depends.
Well that depends [emoji851]...... on if he has any urinary deficiencies-difficulties, maybe he is peeing on you because he doesn't like you. Now if it is due to incontinence well then yeah we will buy him a pack and call it a day.

Another 8500 today. 34 deaths, 109 hospitalizations. So the great news is all of this massive influx isn't producing hospitalizations &fatalities.

My biggest concern is the elderly and sick being safeguarded as best as possible. Though I will say I've seen a great number out in stores shopping without a concern, with it being 50/50 on mask wearage.

I hope it stays that way, unfortunately deaths are a lagging indicator so we won’t know for a few weeks how this translates into deaths.

Yeah that would possibly be over the next few weeks. It's overwhelmingly the elderly who are succumbing to this.

Masks are Fn pointless unless someone is out there sneezing and coughing all over the place. Hands, hands is the big ticket. Not fn masks. Wash your damn hands. Know where you touched.

I see it at the gym. People are cleaning the machines when getting on, not the touch points but the ******* sweat points. Wtf.

I go to my machine do what I need to do. Go to the disinfectant, clean the bar where I touched, Toss the paper towel and sanitize my hands. Ok I’m good. When I’m done bc I know I’ve touched my phone, my hands get it and my phone gets it. Clean. Shower when home. Masks lol.

There were a bunch of shootings in philly this weekend. Heard they all died from covid. ;-)

I hear you, and when I go out I wear an N95 mask because that is my choice to help protect myself and others if at all possible, but I just don't think that a virus that has such a low mortality rate should have mandates to wear masks. And sadly, probably half the people that I see aren't even wearing them correctly.

Regardless of mortality rate, it still is a pretty crappy illness for those who even develop what are considered to be "mild" symptoms that takes them out of action for a couple of weeks.

People are still dumb ***** at the gym. Wipe the ******* HANDLES! The absolute worst ones are the dumbbell handles.

The cloth masks have clearly been explained to reduce large droplets that carry the virus. Virologists and medical personnel wear masks, but the general population doesn't because they don't believe a mask helps, lol.

Viruses are minute, they'll pass right through most porous fabrics like bandanas and t-shirts. They're not only present in large droplets. In fact, large droplets will fall out of the air quickly, whereas the fine mists that pass through porous fabrics will linger in the air longer, so those fabrics are basically useless.

You're right. That's why only N95, N99 & N100 masks are really the only masks that would make a dent in spreading this virus. I know you're quite aware of this already, but they have special filters that can block a particulate (I'm not sure off the top of my head how small), but they block transmission to a degree. I've heard that the N95 mask will block approx. 80% of particulates (again, not sure how small) so don't quote me on that.

And Steelerfan448, virologists are not wearing masks, they are wearing those suits you see in the picture you quoted. Surgical masks are different from N95 respirators in that they're mainly keeping the surgeon from infecting the patient they are operating on. Surgical procedures can really take a toll on the immune system of a person.

And I would listen to Stoney on this stuff.

You know what else are crappy illnesses? Influenza, mumps, measles, chickenpox, shingles etc. And you don't see any mandates surrounding those illnesses. And yes, most of those you won't die from, but you sure as hell can die from influenza.

They're dumb ***** everywhere IMO. Like ICS said, wash your hands and when you can't, sanitize the hell out of them every chance you get. Think I've read a normal person touches their face hundreds if not thousands of times a day, and can you imagine the nastiness that's on our currency that we pass to one another almost every ******* waking moment?

Again...no one said the virus particles can't get through masks. They can. Masks keep your saliva and phlegm from dispersing in the air as far and wide. Saliva and phlegm contain virus. The less saliva and phlegm floating around and the shorter the distance it's able to travel, the less transmission of virus. The amount of viral load you breathe in also affects whether you get infected and how severe the infection will be. So if putting a piece of cloth over my face has any chance of reducing that some, why the hell not?

Masks themselves are a breeding ground for virus and bacteria and they cause fatigue and increased heart rate due to lack of sufficient oxygen from restricted breathing. Cough into your elbow like you're taught as a kid. The only time I wear one is at the barber shop and Dr. appointments with my daughters, where they're required. Indiana is supposed to be at horseshit stage #5 on Saturday. Finally.

Not to mention what is called MASK-ne...or acne where the mask touches your face. Several of my older (Im talking 50s and 60s) coworkers have recently started breaking out! They haven’t had zits in decades! Another thing to consider is the development of infants and toddlers socially. Kids respond to smiling and facial expressions. If they can’t see your mouth to smile, they don’t know if it’s a time to be happy or not. I’ve noticed so many toddlers and babies out who are scared of the masks.
