The Coronavirus thread

It;s just absolutely insane that schools aren't opening.

They talk about teachers but 79% of deaths are in people 65 and older. The vast majority of younger people who have died had serious underlying conditions.

We could protect the most vulnerable easily. Deaths in the less vulnerable are very rare.

This has all gone completely off the rails.

From the American Academy of Pediatrics:

Sounds good, but a lot of "may do this or that or appears to do this or that" they also said "a lot of questions remain." There was a recent study that showed kids over 10 MAY be able to spread the virus as well as adults. I have an almost 9 yr old and I would love for her to go back to school, but I do believe there is risk to it. I will follow whatever the school board decides and will not hold her out if they decide to reopen.

This went from "flatten the curve so hospitals don't get overwhelmed" to "any spread at all is a reason to shut things down". That is madness and we will be dealing with this for years if that's the standard.

yeah, it's crazy.

I have an uncle who was diagnosed with cancer last year. He was Stage 4. He's lived nearly another year. Last week he had tests done. Doc called to say that based on those tests, he has roughly 2-4 months to live. My family is spread across the nation. My mother is in Houston and wants to see her baby brother again before he dies. Problem is my dad had lung cancer surgery 5 years ago and doesnt want to put himself at risk by getting on an airplane OR driving to Tennessee. I'll be driving from Tampa to Houston to get my mother, then drive to Tennessee for a week or two, then back to Houston to take my mother home before driving back to Tampa. My brother lives in Dallas but hasnt offered to do that for our mother. I'm a bit irritated with him about that, but ... he has to stay online to fight the MAGA hats and push forth the lies of BLM.

From the American Academy of Pediatrics:

Schools must start. I don’t care if you a R or a D. If you don’t see the fundamental importance of them your a ****.

Thing is, it’s crazy pending on your kids age. It’s a different level of ******. Kids that are about to enter higher education or trade is soooo ******. My daughter is going to middle school. I think that rough bc that’s where **** starts to get real from learning, switching teachers, and most importantly social interaction. I try my best but **** I’m on the work **** none stop and she is behind a device. I hate it.

My former daughters daycare (which was amazing) has been up and running for awhile so at least that age group should be ok. Each level has sooo much impact. It’s sad they don’t see this as “essential”

We have friends that did the home school thing when they were young instead of a daycare. My kid (not bragging) is leaps and bounds ahead of them on two fronts. Learning, because she had structure and most importantly social interaction. Their kids, I hate saying it are social turds.

Polls polls polls. You know what I think.

Hey iron. I wanna see that again.

Despite your repeated threats and juvenile grandstanding, I’ll gladly meet you anywhere, any time. I’ll even buy you beer.

You’ll soon realize I’m not the liberal-commie-anarchist many of you believe. Sure I have full-blown, raging TDS, increasingly so, and for good reason. Because I love this country and hate to see what Trump is doing to it.
When you say "this country" are you referring to Hungaria, the EU, the world according to the UN, or just what exactly, from your perch in Budapest?

I posed this question before to our liberal friends and didn’t see an answer. You claim to be the party of science. The science clearly shows that kids are at a very small risk and a "consensus of scientists" aka pediatricians have clearly said schools should be open.

yes or no, do you think schools should be open this year?

The science doesn't fit the narrative. Keep as much stress on the country until after the election. They had absolutely zero chance of winning before the commie flu got spread here. Zero.

Just like the demoncrats only use the constitution when it suits their agenda. The rest of the time they **** on it. The same goes with God. Which is totally laughable considering they love slaughtering unborn and born babies.

Good is evil and evil is good. They have some of the most demented twisted people in the country just going batshit crazy to get back in power.

The kids are safe and they know it. If Trump said all of the kids should stay home, they'd be up in arms screaming.

He wears a mask, they flip out. They're a bunch of rusted tools in a **** shed.

Ha, I don’t even read the HuffPost nor do I post anything from there. That’s the funny thing w Trump, you can find all the info and analysis you need from conservative sites and sources. Mainly, it’s simply enough to let the man talk, his words speak for themselves. No need for dem/liberal commentary to highlight the obvious.

I’m glad you’re entertained, as the country burns to the ground - literally & figuratively - under Trump. Sit back & grab some marshmallows.

I didn't mean HuffPost literally, only that you post from sites that are triggered as much as you are.

Oh, and you're right there are cities that are burning, but it's not our President, or those on the right destroying the country, perhaps new sources of information are in order.

I know you can't be this dense, so the only other explanation is that you troll to bait, which may in turn cause some to take offense, eliciting the response that you desire.

In reality, most are just laughing. Carry on.

IC: I don't think this post wins you the entire interweb today, but you do win that part where I'm from.

This is how you be great!

Making America/world great starts with a simple post. I try.

I'll remind you and others of my post on the prior page....there's risk to EVERYTHING we do. 79% of deaths are 65 age or older.

The chances of someone dying from this virus is 0.044% right now.
The chances of dying in a car wreck are 1 in 103 or 0.97%
That's a difference of 183% or an increase of 2,105%

You have a 2,105% increased chance of dying in a car wreck than from COVID.

If you feel it is unsafe to put your 9 year old in a school, do you drive her in your car?

There should be only two groups afraid of schools opening.
1. Teachers that are at risk. Something could be done for them.
2. Kids at risk. Obviously, home schooled if you fear it

Maybe a third. If you yourself is at risk and have kids fearing them giving it to you. Personal choice imo. I’m sending my kid away. That’s what parents do, for the betterment of their kids over them. Always.

Cry me a river, Karen. Oh, the outrage. According to media matters, Soros funding amounts to roughly 10% of their annual budget. The site was started by a former conservative to offset disinformation coming from Fox News and other alt right/far right news sources. They are a thorn in the side of the nutty right, that's for sure. Having said that, I don't give two ***** about Media Matters, don't support them, or even frequent their site. If I posted something from there, among the hundreds of sources I may have posted from over the years, it certainly wasn't with the Holocaust in mind, or jews being herded onto trains, as you describe.

Just some more typical faux outrage from you. Why don't you start researching Ruport Murdoch's media empire, or that of the Koch brothers. Or more importantly, let us know who's behind OANN. Just try not to get your panties in a bunch when you do.

Are you now trying to degrade and dehumanize women with this comment? Are you now doing what you so allegedly stand against? Hmm, maybe your are a nazi sympathizer after all..

Not that I give a crap about baseball any more, but our wonderfully transvestite state health secretary denied the Toronto Blue Jays playing their home games at PNC Park. In front of exactly zero fans and players living in hotel bubbles.

https://mlb.nbcsports.com/2020/07/22/blue-jays-denied-permission-to-play-in-pittsburgh/

Blue Jays-Pittsburgh plan denied permission by State of Pennsylvania
The Blue Jays-Pittsburgh plan, reported this morning, is not happening: the Pennsylvania Health Department has denied the team permission to play its games at PNC Park.

The specific reasons for the denial of the Blue Jays-Pittsburgh plan have yet to be reported but it makes sense that doubling the number of people and events in a confined space when almost all group activities have been banned was going to be met with skepticism. The most surprising thing in all of this, in fact, is that Major League Baseball, apparently, did not obtain signoff from Pennsylvania before the Blue Jays and Pirates began discussion about the arrangement.

As previously reported, the Canadian government has prohibited the Toronto Blue Jays from playing their games in the country, citing the risk of travel by players and team staff into Canada from the COVID-19-ridden United States. Two days ago rumors began circling that the Jays and Pirates were considering sharing PNC Park for Jays home games. Overnight multiple reporters heard from MLB sources that the plan to play there was a go, but that’s no longer the case.

The options for the Blue Jays now seem to be (a) minor league parks; (b) another big league stadium, not yet identified; or (c) becoming like the 1899 Cleveland Spiders and playing a 100% road schedule.

Their “home” opener is now a week away. Pitter patter.

My district had a survey and I voted “Yes” even if a kid in my kids class tested positive. I think you have to do what you can, I can’t imagine a family having multiple small children doing on-line schooling. The school is also giving families the option of on-line classes or a mix of both. I imagine they would go back to on-line only again if cases get out of control.

Yeah, THAT'S working. Heard today that reading scores are down 30% since the lockdown, and like 40-50% for math.

Distance learning has been an abject, utter failure.

Glad to hear you supported kids going back to school though.

As a teacher I know that distance learning is a joke.

I'm not sure how any schools in PA will go back full time based on the regulations set forth by the state. You're right that cyber/distance isn't nearly as effective for most students.
