The Coronavirus thread

I'm not sure how any schools in PA will go back full time based on the regulations set forth by the state. You're right that cyber/distance isn't nearly as effective for most students.

Our governor is a disgrace. His decisions reject the science and data, and that mentally deranged health secretary is evidence of a liberal agenda taking priority over our children's well being.

I sent him an email tonight. I don't expect a response.

yeah but today Penn DOT announced there will be new non-binary gender options on driver's licenses, so the Gov is hard at work on the issues most vexing the average Pennsylvanian.

it's clear they don't want schools open. It's the backdoor way to do a second lockdown and kill the economy without having their prints on the murder weapon.

Maybe but I think it's more that the teachers' unions, who donate a lot of money exclusively to Democrats, are eyeballing more paid vacation.
Same principle as the state liquor stores being closed but not grocery stores.

As a teacher I know that distance learning is a joke.

One of my daughters loved it and got straight A's. My other daughter hated it and her grades suffered. She needs the in person interaction. Our schools are going to do a hybrid of 1/2 on site, 1/2 e-learning. They haven't put out the full schedule yet, but it's better than all e-learning.

Somehow the teachers consider themselves less expendable than any other essential worker. They will gladly get a Latte from a kid at Starbucks on their way to protest for their own safety.

Our Sheriff kicks ***, unlike the pantie waste mayor and governor.

Sheriff Dennis Quakenbush is at Hamilton County Sheriff's Office Indiana.

On March 6th, 2020 a public health emergency was declared for the State of Indiana and has been extended four times. On July 22nd, 2020 the Governor announced he was going to sign an executive order making it a criminal offense not to wear a mask at certain times and locations, for anyone 8 years and older, punishable by up to $1,000 in fines and up to 180 days in jail.
Regardless of any opinion of masks or their impact on COVID 19 good or bad, we must not deviate from the documents which protect our freedoms and liberties. We must guard them at all costs. The men and women of the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office will not be enforcing the mask mandate and will consider it null and void.
As your elected Sheriff of Hamilton County, Indiana, my primary concern and responsibility is to protect the constitutional rights of the citizens. I took an oath to uphold the constitution of the United States and the State of Indiana. I will always do this to the best of my ability.
The announced order has not been introduced as a bill in the General Assembly and our legislators are not in session. The General Assembly could be called into session by the Governor if the “public welfare shall require it,” but this critical step has not taken place. Indiana’s Attorney General has issued an opinion in which he believes this to be unconstitutional. I strongly concur with this opinion.
Here are some pertinent excerpts from the Indiana Constitution.
Article III, Section 1, The powers of the Government are divided into three separate departments; the Legislative, the Executive including the Administrative, and the Judicial: and no person, charged with official duties under one of these departments, shall exercise any of the functions of another, except as in this Constitution expressly provided.
Article IV, Section 1, The Legislative authority of the State shall be vested in a General Assembly, which shall consist of a Senate and a House of Representatives. The style of every law shall be: "Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Indiana"; and no law shall be enacted, except by bill.
Article IV, Section 9, The sessions of the General Assembly shall be held at the capitol of the State, commencing on the Tuesday next after the second Monday in January of each year in which the General Assembly meets unless a different day or place shall have been appointed by law. But if, in the opinion of the Governor, the public welfare shall require it, he may, at any time by proclamation, call a special session. The length and frequency of the sessions of the General Assembly shall be fixed by law.

The mask part had already been proven to be debunked and mostly false. I believe i even posted it in this forum but i guess the more you repeat false info the truer it gets??

All right man, I admit to being a dumbass, especially when it comes to this. I just spent about 45 minutes reading everything I could find about masks and covid. The post I forwarded was probably more blunt than most but it did relay a lot of common info.

What part of it has been 'debunked' and proven 'mostly false, cause I'm not seein' it. This is a summery of what I just found.....

The '95' mask is the best, filtering out 95% of germs but allows particles out unchecked. The '95' masks without the ventilators are pretty much hospital gear and generally one time use. New reports are advocating reuse but it seems to still be debatable.

Surgical masks are not as good as the '95' and need to be cleaned on a regular basis. Different masks seem to have different perimeters but most seem to agree they are for short term use and need to be washed frequently.

Cloth masks are being pushed lately but seem to be regarded in the medical community as a step up from nothing and mostly a feel good covering as protection from the wearers cough and sneeze. Almost all the reports I read said they don't prevent much else.
( some even referred them as a chain link fence to keep out mosquitoes while others said that they did help the spread of virus, though only somewhat.)

ALL the masks are only partially effective to begin with due to the vulnerability through the eyes. Covering the mouth and nose only partially protects against the virus.

Help me out there jitter, what am I missing ?

Here in Wyoming we are trying hard to have a pandemic without pandemic (or even problematic) numbers. So, our RINO governor issued orders (zieg Heil) that we have to test every govt employee. In the prisons they tested all employees, volunteers, subcontractors, inmates and anyone else they could wrestle to the ground.

They picked up a few more. Not many at all. This whole this is retarded. We should be worried about more realistic things. Can't wait until the election is over, even if the dems succeed in stealing it through mail in voter fraud. I wish we had So. Dakota's governor. She's amazing.

what you said is fine, but that's not what the OP said. https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.usatoday.com/amp/3266817001

He was talking about surgical masks being clogged? If any filter becomes clogged it let's nothing through it won't magically open up and let everything through. I have never seen mold or mildew in any mask just from breathing, but obviously cloth masks should be washed frequently. The guy posting that is dangerous because he is claiming to be an expert when in reality he took like a 10hr and 30hr training if what he says is even true.

Had to go do the rona testing for another job. I did 2 tests in two days, since place one has a 10-14 day wait for results wtf? The second testing place a 4-5 day turnaround.

Both nostrils are now fully pipe cleaned.

I know I often defend teachers and rural teachers unions and for people who aren't familiar or who don't work in the field might not see any distinction between small town schools and massive urban districts, but there really is a huge difference. I wanted to share a text I got last night to better highlight it for people who wonder what I'm talking about. I am in a group text which includes a bunch of teachers in our school, one of which is also the union president of our district.

Last night our union president texted out a screen shot of the Los Angeles teachers union's demands to reopen schools, which included things like defunding the police, funding for Illegal immigrants and medicare for all. Our union president wrote under the picture, "And this is why people hate teachers unions". Everyone in the group text responded in agreement that it is complete and utter garbage and makes teachers look like morons.

I think a school district and the staff generally reflects the prevailing attitude and mentality of most people in that area....the lunacy of LA for instance. If any of that **** was even attempted in this area of coal mines and a vast majority of other blue collar people, it would be met with outright scorn and ridicule.

When we first started testing the end of June we had a 2-3 day turn around. Now we have tests done over a week ago with no results yet. My 2nd test took 5 days and i got tested again Tuesday and no results yet. What i don't understand is all out stuff gets overnighted. On Monday they got 1 result back.

Sheer demand. My son who has COVID was tested back in April? He had his results in 24 hours (they were mailed away). SAME exact test now takes 7-10 days. Demand is through the roof. We are testing more than any country on the planet. The Labcorp's are overwhelmed.

I'm not apart of the teachers union. The union here is weak and only really helps if you get sued.

so you're saying that we're all going to die?

I'm no Liberal, I'm not the MSM, I'm not Fibs or Flogged. THEY will tell you we are all going to die. I'm just giving you some facts and personal insight.

Oh I don't have anything..haha. The owner of the company required me to do it. Take the test. He actually already had the rona. He's early 60,s felt crappy for a.week or so, went back to work when he tested negative.

Take me out
To the ball game
Take me out
To the crowd
Buy me some peanuts
And Crackerjacks
I don't care if
I never never get back

Let me root, root root
For the home team
If they don't win
It's a shame
For it's one, two,
Three strikes you're out
At the old ball game!

The coronavirus pandemic is pushing America into a mental health crisis

A federal emergency hotline for people in emotional distress registered a more than 1,000 percent increase in April compared with the same time last year. Last month, roughly 20,000 people texted that hotline, run by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration.
